Cleveland’s restaurant closes

Cleveland’s restaurant in downtown Versailles has closed its doors.

The popular dining spot managed by the owners of Holly Hill Inn, Chef Ouita and Chris Michel in Midway, will no longer be serving meals to outside diners or guests of the Woodford Inn.

According to Chef Ouita’s publicist Genie Graf, Cleveland’s at the Woodford Inn and the Park Street Bourbon Bar will no longer operate under the Michels’ management. Chef Ouita’s brother-in-law, Jared Richardson, had served as executive chef for Cleveland’s.

“They have terminated their lease agreement,” Graf said.

They had not been able to reach an agreement with the present Woodford Inn owners to take over the operation of the 10-room inn as well as the restaurant and bar, Graf said.

“Ouita and Chris wanted to rent the whole operation, not just the food and beverage service, but came to an impasse with the current management,” Graff said.

“We loved celebrating Kentucky’s culinary heritage with diners,” said Chef Ouita, who has earned a reputation in Central Kentucky and national awards for using locally produced products – vegetables, fruits and meats.

Graff said that Richardson will pursue other interests, but the remaining staff will be given jobs at Holly Hill Inn or Wallace Station, which the Michels also own.

According to an answering machine message at Woodford Inn, plans are under way to open the restaurant and bar under new management.

The management of Woodford Inn continues to operate its guest room hotel.
