Strong fourth quarter lifts WHHS to win

Western Hills’ girls basketball team put up 24 points in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 65-56 win over Estill County Monday night in Irvine.


WHHS (7-13) took a 19-15 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Estill County cut the lead to two points by halftime with the Lady Wolverines leading 30-28 at the break.


Both teams scored 11 points in the third quarter, but Western Hills more than doubled that total in the fourth quarter to get the victory.


The Lady Wolverines had three players in double figures, led by Meagan Walker with 19 points.


Tessa Barnes scored 15 points, and Danielle Watson chipped in 11. Also scoring for WHHS were Krystal Cammuse with nine points, Kaylah Roberts with six, and Kendyl Vandergriff with five.


Chelsea Alexander led Estill County (6-13) with 14 points.


Western Hills’ next game is at home Friday against Boyle County.

Shelby Co. 50, FCHS 42 (G)
Shelby County’s girls basketball team held Franklin County to single-digit scoring in two quarters on its way to a 50-42 victory Monday in Shelbyville.


The Lady Rockets (10-13) led 16-12 after the first quarter and were ahead 26-20 at halftime.


Franklin County (19-6) cut into the lead in the third quarter, outscoring Shelby 17-15 and trailing 41-37 going into the fourth quarter.


FCHS’ Chelsea Craig led all players with 16 points. Also scoring for the Lady Flyers were Andrea Howard with seven points, Chelsea Rivers with six, Raven Timmons with five, Lacinda Hack with four, Emily Hampton with three, and Ashli Mayes with one point.


The Lady Rockets were led in scoring by Marissa Raisor with 14 points, and Taylor Shaw had 13.


Franklin County hosts 23-1 Madison Central Friday in its next game.
