The Kentucky State men’s basketball team lit it up from the outside in the first half and cruised to a 76-63 win over Morehouse College Saturday at the Exum Center. It was the regular-season finale for both teams. The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament starts Tuesday and runs through Saturday at Morehouse in Atlanta. KSU’s Jarrod Gay hit a 3-pointer to open the game and the Thorobreds (11-16, 11-13 SIAC) never trailed. K-State was 7-for-10 from 3-point range in the first half. Gay finished the game going 5-for-7 on 3-pointers and scored a team-high 23 points while teammate William Marsh was 3-for-5 from long range and scored 13 points. The Thorobreds led 42-25 at halftime after shooting 55.2 percent, and their largest lead was 21 points with 7:53 left in the game. The closest Morehouse got to KSU in the second half was 11 points with just 30 seconds left in the game. Parysh Munroe hit a layup for KSU 10 seconds later and after a turnover by Morehouse with 16 seconds left, K-State was able to run out the clock for the win. Rounding out the scoring for KSU were Patrick Dawson with nine points, Tony Johnson with eight, Munroe with seven, Julian Brown with six, Jabari Wright with five, Alex Somerville with three, and Joshua Davidson with two points. Johnson had a game-high six assists and five steals, and Somerville had two blocked shots. Joesiah Anabraba led Morehouse (7-19, 7-17 SIAC) with 23 points and a game-high 16 rebounds as the Maroon Tigers outrebounded KSU 43-26. Gay, Dawson, Munroe and Wright all had four rebounds to lead the Thorobreds. The Maroon Tigers hit 42 percent from the field but struggled from the foul line, hitting just 52.4 percent (11-for-12). KSU forced Morehouse into 22 turnovers to just nine assists. KSU honored Travis Grant, a recent Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, during a ceremony at halftime. Comments
