Lauren Reed receives all-conference honorsLauren Reed, a junior at Spalding University, was recently named second team all-conference for women’s basketball in the Saint Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Spalding ended its season in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national tournament played last week in Uniontown, Pa. Spalding (13-13) lost 70-69 in overtime to Penn State-Beaver. In that game Reed, a 5-10 post player, had a double-double with 25 points and 16 rebounds. Spalding opened the tournament with a 51-36 loss to Rochester College. Reed scored six points against Rochester. Reed, a graduate of Western Hills, transferred to Spalding this past year. She began the season as a backup center and moved into the starting lineup midway through the season. She played in 22 of Spalding’s games this season and averaged 10.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest. Reed led the team in field goal percentage (47.4 percent) and was second in free throw percentage (80.3 percent). This year’s race will be Friday, June 11 at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Frankfort. In addition to the race itself, participants will have access to free educational classes (Sunday afternoons, beginning March 28), mentoring runs, weekly e-mail tips and a training schedule.
