Lauren Reed receives all-conference honors
Lauren Reed, a junior at Spalding University, was recently named second team all-conference for women’s basketball in the Saint Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Spalding ended its season in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national tournament played last week in Uniontown, Pa. Spalding (13-13) lost 70-69 in overtime to Penn State-Beaver. In that game Reed, a 5-10 post player, had a double-double with 25 points and 16 rebounds.
Spalding opened the tournament with a 51-36 loss to Rochester College. Reed scored six points against Rochester.
Reed, a graduate of Western Hills, transferred to Spalding this past year. She began the season as a backup center and moved into the starting lineup midway through the season.
She played in 22 of Spalding’s games this season and averaged 10.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest. Reed led the team in field goal percentage (47.4 percent) and was second in free throw percentage (80.3 percent).

Early registration for 5K underway
Pro.Active Therapy and the United Way of Franklin County announce the 4th Annual Pro.Active for Life 5K Early Registration Kick Off.
Runners and walkers who register by Tuesday, March 23 will be eligible for a variety of great door prizes, including new running shoes and apparel, fitness opportunities, a summer pool party, restaurant meals and more, as well as a free physical therapy screening coupon at Pro.Active Therapy.
This year’s race will be Friday, June 11 at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Frankfort. In addition to the race itself, participants will have access to free educational classes (Sunday afternoons, beginning March 28), mentoring runs, weekly e-mail tips and a training schedule.
Individual, team and school registration forms may be downloaded from www.proactivetherapy.org or www.unitedwayfranklincounty.org or picked up at the Pro.Active Therapy Clinic, 1004 Leawood Dr. Registration forms may be dropped off and training, educational and mentoring schedules, along with other goodies, may be picked up on Tuesday, March 23 from noon-6 p.m. at the clinic.
