Pinnacle Insurance had a long wait for Wednesday’s championship game of the Little League softball tournament, but it didn’t slow the team down.
Pinnacle defeated MainSource Bank 13-1 in a game called after three innings on the mercy rule, taking the title without losing a game in the tournament.
MainSource played Hillcrest Baptist Church Wednesday in the losers bracket final, winning 20-17 to reach the championship matchup at Lakeview Park.
After about a 15-minute break, MainSource was back on the field against Pinnacle.
In the title game Pinnacle scored 11 runs in the first inning as walks and hit batsmen hurt MainSource. Kayla Hortenbury, Kiana Butler and Olivia Smith all singled in the first for Pinnacle.
MainSource loaded the bases on walks with two outs in the top of the second but a strikeout ended the threat, and Pinnacle picked up a run in the bottom of the inning with a walk and a single by Kerrigan Brown, going ahead 12-0.
Shelby Hodge drew a leadoff walk for MainSource in the third inning, and Rachel Blevins singled as the team scored its only run.
In the bottom of the third Pinnacle scored a run without a hit as Mariah Butler and Kiana Butler both drew walks and Mariah Butler stole two bases.
Kiana Butler was the winning pitcher with six strikeouts. She gave up one hit, the single to Blevins, and she had one of Pinnacle’s four hits with a single. Olivia Smith, Brown and Hortenbury also singled for Pinnacle.
Blevins and Katherine Caldwell pitched for MainSource and struck out five batters.
MAINSOURCE 20, HILLCREST 17
Kaycee Purvis hit a double and single for MainSource, Rachel Blevins and Aleesa Salyers both singled twice, and Shelby Hodge, Sydney Redmon and Myranda Perry each had a base hit.
Katherine Caldwell pitched for MainSource and had seven strikeouts.
Lindsey Axon hit a home run, double and single for Hillcrest Baptist Church, Ali Ellis singled three times, Alexis Gardner, Kerry Taylor and Emmalee Young all hit two singles, and Amanda Boggs, Taylor Boggs and Jamie Jordan had a single apiece.
Amanda Boggs, Reagan Sutton and Ellis pitched and combined for seven strikeouts.
