Pinnacle Insurance had a long wait for Wednesday’s championship game of the Little League softball tournament, but it didn’t slow the team down.

Pinnacle defeated MainSource Bank 13-1 in a game called after three innings on the mercy rule, taking the title without losing a game in the tournament.

MainSource played Hillcrest Baptist Church Wednesday in the losers bracket final, winning 20-17 to reach the championship matchup at Lakeview Park.

After about a 15-minute break, MainSource was back on the field against Pinnacle.

In the title game Pinnacle scored 11 runs in the first inning as walks and hit batsmen hurt MainSource. Kayla Hortenbury, Kiana Butler and Olivia Smith all singled in the first for Pinnacle.

MainSource loaded the bases on walks with two outs in the top of the second but a strikeout ended the threat, and Pinnacle picked up a run in the bottom of the inning with a walk and a single by Kerrigan Brown, going ahead 12-0.

Shelby Hodge drew a leadoff walk for MainSource in the third inning, and Rachel Blevins singled as the team scored its only run.

In the bottom of the third Pinnacle scored a run without a hit as Mariah Butler and Kiana Butler both drew walks and Mariah Butler stole two bases.

Kiana Butler was the winning pitcher with six strikeouts. She gave up one hit, the single to Blevins, and she had one of Pinnacle’s four hits with a single. Olivia Smith, Brown and Hortenbury also singled for Pinnacle.

Blevins and Katherine Caldwell pitched for MainSource and struck out five batters.

MAINSOURCE 20, HILLCREST 17

Kaycee Purvis hit a double and single for MainSource, Rachel Blevins and Aleesa Salyers both singled twice, and Shelby Hodge, Sydney Redmon and Myranda Perry each had a base hit.

Katherine Caldwell pitched for MainSource and had seven strikeouts.

Lindsey Axon hit a home run, double and single for Hillcrest Baptist Church, Ali Ellis singled three times, Alexis Gardner, Kerry Taylor and Emmalee Young all hit two singles, and Amanda Boggs, Taylor Boggs and Jamie Jordan had a single apiece.

Amanda Boggs, Reagan Sutton and Ellis pitched and combined for seven strikeouts.

I agree with you. Not to take anything away from Pinnacle but the first game was hard fought between Hillcrest and Mainsource in scorching heat. That game lasted over 2 hours while they battled back and forth. It was just too much for any team to play a second game against a fresh team after that. Plus Several of the girls on the Pinnacle team play for Select/Traveling teams. They play together all year and some have personal coaches not like the regular Recreation players. At least they only allow the recreational players that have not registered with another team in NSA and ASA to play on the All Star Team. This allows other girls that cannot afford to pay for all of those tournaments, or have the sponsors to pay for it, to get in some good notable tournaments after regular season. That is one good thing about NSA and ASA. Once they are registered with one team for the year, they are not allowed to register with an All Star team at all and play in Regional or State Recreation Tournaments.

A few inaccuracies in the story. Several of the girls had different hits and Sydney Redmon hit a 2RBI Dble in the top of the 5th for the go ahead +1 run. After that Mainsource scored a couple more. It was a great game by Both Mainsource and Hillcrest. Hillcrest attempted a comeback in the bottom of the 5th with their last at bat which scored one additional run. Games like this is why watching Girls Fast Pitch Softball has become so popular. Great way to end the year Ladies. Congratulations to Pinnacle as well. I wish that Mainsource could have had more than just 15 minutes to rest before they had to play Pinnacle for the championship after defeating Hillcrest. The Parks and Recreation should consider playing on the next day especially as hot as it was for Mainsource to have to play 2 games back to back and Pinnacle being completely rested. Anywho, it was a great season and I am looking forward for an awesome Fall League.
