Sometimes the start to a game is foreboding. Sometimes it’s a fluke.
Frankfort Blue proved its start against the Henry County All-Stars was the latter on the second day of the Cal Ripken League District Tournament Wednesday at Paul Weddle Field.
Henry County pitcher Bodie Clark struck out the side to begin the game, and the first two HC batters reached on singles.
Strangely enough, it turned out to be the perfect start for the Blue All-Stars, who walked away with a 10-0 win in four innings.
Frankort Blue starter Parker Jackson struck out the side after giving up the two hits. He pitched a hitless second and third frame before ceding the mound to Tyler Anglin, who ended the game with three strikeouts.
A five-run third inning and four-run fourth allowed Frankfort to finish off Henry Clay early.
Three walks in the top of the third set up RBI extra-base hits for Jackson, Michael Clark and Joe Meyer, who batted in four baserunners in the game.
In the fourth, Isaiah Gabbard’s infield single allowed Luke Wheatley to cross home plate, making the score 7-0. Gabbard would come round to score on Meyer’s second hit of the evening, which pushed the lead to double digits.
Early in the game, Conner Slone got Frankfort Blue on the board in the top of the second by swiping home on a passed ball after hitting a triple. Anglin also had a hit in the frame but was thrown out trying to stretch a double into a triple.
Frankfort Blue plays again today at 6 p.m.
