Frankfort Blue's Michael Clark misses a throw allowing Beau Revlett to be safe at first base during the Cal Ripken League District Tournament at Paul Weddle Field Thursday night. Scott County won 7-2.
As Yogi Berra might say, it was déjà vu all over again for the Frankfort Blue All-Stars in the Cal Ripken League District Tournament Thursday at Paul Weddle Field.
After getting bested by Scott County 7-0 in the first round of the tournament on Tuesday, the Blue All-Stars succumbed to a similar fate Thursday, finishing the tournament with a 7-2 defeat.
The game was scoreless through three innings as Frankfort’s Joe Meyer and Scott County’s Brandon Wilson resumed their pitching duel from two days prior.
Meyer allowed only two hits through the game’s first half, while Wilson gave up just one.
The bats heated up in the fourth, however, as Scott County scored three runs on three hits off reliever Parker Jackson, including a two-run home run by Robbie Hannaback.
The Blue All-Stars countered with a home run of their own in the bottom half of the frame as Conner Slone nailed a Justin Warman pitch over the fence in deep centerfield, scoring Meyer to make it a 3-2 ballgame.
But Frankfort fell into another hole in the top of the fifth when Scott County led off with five straight hits and added four more runs, including a two-run home run by Wilson.
Brenden Cummins pitched the final two innings for Frankfort Blue, striking out two.
In addition to Slone’s home run, Michael Clark and Meyer singled for the Blue All-Stars.
Shelby County and Scott County will square off at 6 p.m. today for the tournament’s championship.
