Frankfort All-Stars’ Jordan Taylor waits in the on-deck circle during a game against the Shelby County All-Stars on Wednesday night. Jordan proved instrumental in Frankfort’s 9-5 victory, pitching a no-hitter through five innings and hitting a 2-run home run in the second inning.
The 15-year-old Frankfort All-Stars started off the Babe Ruth District All-Star tournament with a bang on Wednesday, beating the Shelby County All-Stars 9-5 at Capitol View Park.
The scoring barrage started early for Frankfort when JP Roberts hit an RBI single that scored Tanner Roberts in the bottom of the first inning.
But the floodgates really opened in the bottom of the second inning, with Frankfort unleashing a 7-run rally that began with a single from Austin Wiard that drove in Joey Napier and Taylor Oaken to make the score 3-0.
Tanner Roberts followed Wiard’s lead, smacking a single that scored Eric Andersen and Wiard.
But Jordan Taylor topped both his teammates, crushing a home run to center field that scored Tanner Roberts and pushed Frankfort’s lead to 7-0.
JP Roberts reached on an error in the next at-bat and took second and third base on passed balls.
He would score after Trey Badgett walked and created a rundown between first and second base, allowing JP Roberts to take home easily and up Frankfort’s advantage to 8-0.
Frankfort coasted through the third and fourth innings due largely to a stellar pitching performance by Taylor, who didn’t allow a hit until the fifth inning.
Taylor gave himself another insurance run in the bottom of the fourth inning when he stole home after being advanced to third on a groundout by JP Roberts, giving Frankfort a 9-0 lead.
Shelby County got things going in the top of the fifth inning when Connor Stivers, who’d walked and taken second and third base on passed balls, stole home on a wild pitch.
Austin Perry then broke up Taylor’s no-hitter with a single that scored Joe Harrod, who’d reached on a walk.
Shelby County wouldn’t strike again until the top of the seventh inning, when Perry unleashed a triple that drove in Harrod and Jacob Noonan and cut Frankfort’s lead to 9-4.
However, Perry was called out for not touching first base and brought Frankfort to within one out of the victory.
AJ McGowin roped an RBI single that plated Dan Sanders but was thrown out on the next at-bat on a fielder’s choice from Tyler Eads, giving Frankfort the 9-5 victory.
Also getting hits for Frankfort were Zack Mason and Forrest Coffey.
Shelby County also got hits from McGowin, Eads, Harrod and Sanders.
Frankfort plays again tonight at 7 against the Scott County All-Stars.
