Frankfort All-Stars drop two to Shelby Co. in district finale

The Babe Ruth District All-Star tournament came to a close on Saturday, with the 15-year-old Frankfort All-Stars falling to the Shelby County All-Stars 3-2 in the championship game.


The loss was Frankfort’s second of the day, as they were defeated earlier in the morning by Shelby County, which needed two wins to take the title.


Shelby County got things rolling in the top of the second inning when Tyler Eads scored a run to give his team a 1-0 lead.


Alex Hamilton and Trent Turner scored for Shelby County in the top of the fifth inning to push the advantage to 3-0.


Frankfort would mount a rally in the bottom of the fifth inning, with Eric Andersen and Forrest Coffey scoring runs to cut Shelby County’s lead to one run.


But Frankfort failed to score any more runs and lost 3-2.


Getting hits for Frankfort were Austin Wiard, Tanner Roberts and Trey Badgett.


Shelby County got hits from Turner, Trevor Walker and Bubba Perry.

 
Frankfort will play again at the State All-Star tournament on July 20 in Owingsville.


Shelby Co. 8, Frankfort 4

The All-Stars lost for the first time in the tournament Saturday morning, falling to Shelby County 8-4.


Frankfort started out strong in the top of the first inning, with Austin Wiard and Tanner Roberts both scoring to give Frankfort an early 2-0.


But Shelby County would answer in the bottom half of the inning with runs from Alex Hamilton and Jacob Noonan that tied the game at 2-2.


While both teams were quiet in the second inning, the third inning saw an onslaught of runs that ultimately swung the game in Shelby County’s favor.


Jordan Taylor scored Frankfort’s lone run in the top of the third inning that made the score 3-2.


But that lead wouldn’t last long, as Jacob Noonan, Bubba Perry, Dan Sanders, Tee Gobal and Kevin Veeley all scored runs and gave Shelby County a 7-3 advantage.


Shelby County would add to their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with a run from Trent Turner.


Zach Mason would score for Frankfort in the top of the sixth inning to cut Shelby County’s lead to8-4, but the team couldn’t muster a comeback and fell by the same margin.
Getting hits for Frankfort were Tanner Roberts, Taylor, JP Roberts, Eric Andersen, Trey Badgett, Wiard and Mason.
Shelby County got hits from Noonan, Perry, Sanders and Tyler Eads.
