The Frankfort 13- and 14-year-old baseball All-Stars both saw early exits in their respective state tournaments over the weekend. The 14s dropped two games in Shelbyville, while the 13s played in Somerset, going 1-2 in the tournament.
14-year-olds
An 11-run third inning propelled host Shelby County to a 14-1, five-inning win over Frankfort Saturday night at Clear Creek Park in a consolation bracket game.
Shelby County picked up eight hits - all singles - in the inning as the team sent 15 batters to the plate in the third.
Frankfort, meanwhile, struggled to get runners on base. After Zach Miller and Rich Kemper were stranded at third and second bases, respectively, in the first inning, Frankfort failed to get a runner on base until the top of the fifth inning.
Kyle Fisher opened the top of the fifth for Frankfort with a base hit. He stole second and moved to third on a single by Wright. A sacrifice fly to left field by Joe Cheek scored Fisher for Frankfort’s lone run in the game.
Frankfort finished with three hits, singles from Miller, Fisher and Wright.
Alex McKinney and Michael Hurt pitched for Frankfort.
Frankfort dropped its opener, 7-4, against Northern, a team based out of Lexington. Frankfort scored three runs in the first inning and one in the second.
Getting hits for Frankfort were McKinney with two singles and Wright, Hurt and Cody Hall with a single apiece.
13-year-olds
After winning their opening game Thursday night, Frankfort suffered a heartbreaking 7-6 loss to South Lexington in eight innings.
Frankfort had taken a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the third after scoring a run in the first inning, one in the second and two in the third. South Lexington stormed back, however, with a five-run third. Frankfort added a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings. South Lexington countered with a run in the fifth, making it 6-6 after six innings. Following a scoreless seventh, South Lexington put runners on first and second with no outs, but Frankfort quickly picked up two outs with runners still at first and second. A single, however, ended the game giving South Lexington the win.
Jeffrey Quire pitched seven innings for Frankfort with Seth Roush pitching the eighth.
Roush and Quenton Brownlee each doubled and singled twice for Frankfort. Samuel Mackey doubled, and Cameron Thompson, Dawson Willis and Logan Duke hit one single apiece.
In its consolation game, Frankfort took a 2-0 lead on Southeast Lexington only to lose 7-2.
The game was scoreless until Frankfort scored twice in the bottom of the fifth. Southeast rebounded with six runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh.
Brownlee doubled and singled for Frankfort while Mackey singled twice. Duke singled.
Brownlee, Roush and Mackey pitched for Frankfort.
