Anna Louise Campbell Morse, aged 87 years, fought the good fight and went home to be in the arms of her Lord Jesus on Sunday, July 25, 2010. The daughter of the late James and Uriah Bea Campbell, Louise grew up in Dycusburg, KY and moved to Frankfort in 1946 to find work with the state government. She worked as a secretary for Lt. Governor Thelma Stovall, before moving to work in the Secretary of State’s office for Frances Jones Mills. In total, she worked 31 years for the state, retiring in 1981. In commemoration of her years of service, she was sworn in and served as Secretary of State on the day she retired. Shortly after arriving in Frankfort, Louise met the love of her life, a young Franklin County farmer named Donald. After a short courtship, they knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together, and were wed on November 22, 1947, at Memorial Baptist Church by Brother James Cox. Donald and Louise made their home in the Bald Knob area of Frankfort, KY. They went on to have four children, nine grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. In the years after retiring, Mrs. Morse spent her time gardening, and was active in the Christiansburg Homemaker’s Club, Bagdad Quilting Club, Frankfort Garden Club and remained involved with the retired state employees group. She was also a KY Colonel. Always the strong, solid rock who never wavered in times of trouble, Louise’s favorite past-time was caring for her family and loving them as only she could. Mrs. Morse is survived by her husband of 62 years, Donald; a brother, Robert Campbell of Henderson, KY; four children N. Donald Morse II (Ann), Marianna Sue Morse Petrey, James Pryor Morse (Shauna) and Emily Gay Morse Toadvine (Dennis); nine grandchildren, Jill Morse Midkiff, Valery Faye Morse Perkins, Dr. Christopher L. Petrey, Donald Stephen Petrey, Lorrie Morse Devers, Ronda Marie Petrey, Reva Joy Toadvine, Thomas Carver Toadvine and Benjamin Tyler Morse; three step-grandchildren, Lauren Toadvine, Justain Jones, Jarod Jones; and seven great-grandchildren.
