The Gene Hilen Invitational girls golf tournament will have some of the best talent in the state competing Saturday at Juniper Hill.

Defending champion Franklin County and Western Hills are tournament co-hosts.

A total of 19 teams will be competing in this year’s event, as well several individuals.

Tee times start at 11:45 a.m. with players going off Nos. 1 and 10.

FCHS will tee off No. 10 in a group with Green County, Shelby County and Notre Dame from 1:15-1:55 p.m.

Western Hills is grouped with Grant County, Sacred Heart and Henry Clay.

The Lady Wolverines will be teeing off No. 1. Those playing for WHHS will be Ashley Stevens (1:33 p.m.), Peyton Silva (1:42), Anna Hawkins (1:51), Shelby Wooldridge (2) and Megan Kinney (2:09).

Caldwell County’s Emma Talley, the defending champion who’s won the Hilen three times in the past four years, will be returning to the tournament.

Talley has been selected for the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team and will compete against Europe’s top juniors just before the regular Ryder Cup Sept. 26-28 at Gleneagles Resort in Gleneagles, Scotland. St. Xavier’s Justin Thomas was also selected for the Junior Ryder Cup team.

Talley disqualified herself in last year’s state tournament for signing an incorrect scorecard. She had been the defending state champion.

Last year’s state runner-up, Emily Haas, will be at the Hilen Saturday with her West Jessamine teammates. Haas recently shot a 30 in a nine-hole, regular-season match.

North Hardin’s Lydia Gumm, a two-time Kentucky Miss Golf, will be competing as an individual.

Gumm, a sophomore, recently won the Kentucky Invitational Tournament with a nine-under par 61 at Lakewood Country Club in Russell Springs.

Talley, Gumm, Haas and Ballard’s Gina Nuzzo will be teeing off No. 10 at 2:05 p.m. Saturday.
