While state legislators were proposing and debating bills at the Capitol last week, so was Henry Webb from Harrodsburg. During the four-day class, Webb proposed a bill on the sanctity of life that he had written prior to the class.
Webb was participating in TeenPact, a national class taught at 35 state Capitols that teaches students the legislative process through mock bills and model legislative sessions. TeenPact founder Tim Echols says that the goal of the class is more than just a hands-on civics lesson: “Our primary goal is for students to come away with a realization that they have tremendous political and spiritual capacity to influence their nation for Christ.”
In addition to writing a proposed bill, Webb completed prerequisite studies for the class by reading Echol’s book “Real Citizenship", Brad Bright's book "God Is The Issue”, memorizing Bible verses, reading Governor Beshear’s recent speeches, and writing letters to both Representative Milward Dedman and Senator Dan Kelly.
TeenPact is a non-profit ministry that provides comprehensive leadership experiences that bring teens closer to Jesus Christ, make them better leaders and position them to impact public policy in their states. More than 3,000 students are expected to participate in TeenPact training this year.
Henry is an 8th grade LIGHT homeschool student and member of Burgin Baptist Church. He is the son of Hank and Debbie Webb of Harrodsburg and the grandson of Cecil H. "Sonny" Webb, Jr. and Myrtle Bates Webb of Frankfort.
