I'm thinking the utility statment would fall under the "Open Records Request" law. I don't know that for a fact.

i have heard several conversations about the lights in this and other buildings. the DOT building is a good one for people to focus on for beginning the shift toward more energy conservation in this town. here's the idea i've been thinking:
if someone could get a hold of a utility statement for the building and somehow find out how much money the taxpayers are shelling out to keep the lights on in this building, that would be a good stat to know. my suspicion is that since this is a government building, the utility contract is pretty cush, and overuse isn't really a concern of anyone. who cares if more money is spent on energy, when its the tax base that fits the bill?

certainly the energy company likes this situation.

electricity companies and the department of transportation won't be the likely vanguards of change toward energy conservation. they will most likely need considerable pushing from people in this town...

"They appear to be on a timer to turn off at midnight."

Many a night I worked late in the Tower and when the cleaning people were through they would turn out the lights if no one was on a floor. The lights were sectioned off so it wouldn't be necessary for an entire floor to be lit up just the section someone was working in.
Most likely Finance or whatever they'll call it after the "reorganization" would be in charge of that or facilities maintenance. A timer sounds like a good idea to me but we'll see if there's an excuse - like money - to not do it.

Am I the only one who (sometimes) feels as though I'm beating my head against a brick wall when it comes to trying to bring about change in this town? Wow! A really long sentence!

The Capital Plaza Tower is the same way

I'll add another one to watch.

State Stadium baseball field lights. They appear to be on a timer to turn off at midnight. There were many a night I drove home from work at 11 pm and they were still on.

I called the city and the Parks director several to make them aware of this.

Guess what ... Nothing happened

I don't know if it is still that way but it was for many years

Have you received a response from the govs. office? Might be a good story for the SJ to cover.

As an employee of the Transportation Cabinet and located in this building, it has been voiced. I know several people, including myself, have offered the suggestion of cutting back on the lighting at night. These were submitted to the governor's office when they requested ways in which they could save money and conserve energy.

Are they on 24-7? Perhaps we should bring that to the attention of someone.

I wonder just how much Frankfort ctizens pay for that building to have them lights on 24-7?
