@ema: You should have stopped after "I am not well versed when it comes to guns and ammo"

The rest only proved the first statement.

Bottom line, the brady bill put a ban on assult weapons and high capacity magazines (clips). Did crime go down? No. Why? because the people who use these weapons for criminal intent, are just that. . .criminals. They will get their illegal weapons one way or another.

The answer is in in the punishment, not the law. Punish harder. Once the liberals figure this out, then and only then can we deter crime. Taking weapons from law abiding citizens has proven time and time again to not do anything except INCREASE crime. Look at England and their weapons ban. . .

Ownow: LOL!!! I've never understood why pick-up owners don't close their tailgates! Guess they just want to keep a little extra distance between us and them! ;)

As for the bullets, Bubba probably had just finished shooting some more holes in the West Side Hardee's stop sign after knocking down some highway signs with his pick-up truck! ;)

Ema, the ammunition in this picture is more than likely for a handgun. It's 9mm Luger which is a VERY popular caliber. There are some non-handgun firearms that fire it, but for the most part, it's handgun ammunition.

Firearms that fire multiple rounds without stopping (eg, you pull the trigger and they keep firing until you let go) are called "fully automatic".

They are NOT illegal for civilians to own, but there's a fairly extensive (and expensive) process to obtain permission from Uncle Sam to get one legally.

Firearms that fire each time you pull the trigger are called semi-automatic. A lot of these use some sort of detachable magazine, or "clip" (although I know of several that do not).

Assault rifle is a pretty loosely used (and therefore, pretty useless) term. There are "official" definitions out there, but the one the anti-gun crusaders out there like to use is pretty much any semi-automatic firearm with a detachable magazine. The detachable magazine distinction is important because it relates to how many rounds you can fire in a given amount of time (if you're using detachable magazines, you can empty one, pop another one in and keep going until you run out of magazines, whereas with something that uses an internal magazine, you have to stop shooting and actually reload the thing... Popping in a magazine, for all intents and purposes, is a LOT faster than reloading an internal magazine).

At any rate, I'm not sure what my point was in this post, but I hope you learned something. :)

I am not well versed when it comes to guns and ammo, but I don't think that anyone who feels the need for an assault rifle is planning to go hunting (at least not for animals) and they certainly don't need one for defending hearth and home. I'm not sure it's even called an assault rifle. I'm making reference to those that fire numerous runs without stopping.

My guess is the impact...

Ammo's expensive right now (more due to fears of what the Obama administration is going to do than due to the administration's actions).

Hmm... wonder if it was the impact, or the driver, that threw it from the vehicle?

Sheila, the ammo was turned in to the police.

Due to SJ layout constraints, you have to click and view the full size image in order to see the photo description. So I've copied and pasted here in my comment.

While out walking on Sunday, I found two boxes of ammo. I'm not a gun owner and I am not sure if wet ammo can be used. I left my find with Frankfort's finest, knowing that they will dispose of it properly. The ammo was found at the corner of Wilkinson Blvd. and Fair Oaks Lane. It looked as if there had been a recent car accident and the ammo was likely thrown from the vehicle.

You should probably turn those in to the police. Unless of course you own a luger and can use them :-)
