Kentucky musician and storyteller Mitch Barrett listens as third-grader John Mitchell, left, tells the story of how he got his name in Second Street School’s music room. Katelyn Hershey, from right, Anthony Valentine and Dustin Penn practice the “good audience skills” Barrett taught them by quietly watching and listening. Barrett has been working with third, fifth and sixth-graders on developing storytelling, songwriting and communication skills. He was brought to the school through a grant from the Kentucky Arts Council’s Teacher Incentive Program.
