May Friendship Day, sponsored by Church Women United, will be held FRIDAY at Highland Christian Church, Versailles Road at Lyons Drive. Registration begins at 10 a.m., the CWU board meets at 10:30 and the program is at 11. Light refreshments will be served and a nursery is available.
This year's theme is "God's Wisdom inspires Hospitality." The annual dedication of offerings to the Fellowship of the Least Coin will also be part of the service. All women are invited.
Frankfort Arts Foundation's 2007-08 season continues with Award Winning Bands on Friday, May 9 in Bradford Hall featuring bands from KSU, Frankfort High, Franklin County and Western Hills.
The final program in the season is the annual Leadingham Prose-Poetry Reading set for May 24 at the Church of the Ascension, Washington St.
The senior art exhibit of Jennifer Lawson continues through May 9 in Jackson Hall Gallery on the Kentucky State University campus. Lawson is presenting archival digital photographs, sculpture, and original furniture designs. Gallery hours are 9-5 daily, or by appointment by calling Reba Rye, 597-5994.
Several events are planned to help raise money for Frankfort High School's Project Graduation.
>A Carnival for Kids is set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10 at Lakeview Park. Admission is $8 and the event features face painting, a bounce house and obstacle course as well as a dunk tank from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The dunk tank will feature teachers, principals and staff members.
>A golf scramble is also scheduled for 9 a.m. May 10 at Lakeview Park. Cost is $20 for nine holes with cart. Lunch will be provided.
>From May 15-18 FHS will host a silent auction during the senior play to raise money.

Spring Thing 2008 is set for Saturday, May 10, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. in downtown Frankfort. The event features classic cars, muscle cars, street rods, and this year various race cars and motorcycles. It will be staged on both sides of Broadway and St. Clair.

The Activate America 5K Race and Fun Run/Walk is set to step off at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 10 from the new Capitol. All proceeds from the event will help support the Frankfort YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.

The race begins and ends in front of the Capitol. All participants will receive a short-sleeve Activate America 5K T-shirt.
The Capital City Chorale, under the direction of Gary Johnson, will present its Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 13. Location and time will be announced.
Frank W. Sower will be honored at a reception 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at the Frankfort/Franklin County Senior Citizens Center, 202 Medical Heights Dr. A recognition program is planned for 5:45. The public is invited.
Sower, a local businessman and former mayor of Frankfort, is being honored for his support of the Senior Citizens Center and his service and generosity to Frankfort, Franklin County and the state.
Vernissage will take place 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 15, n the cafeteria at Franklin County High School.
Vernissage is an art rental program with the option to buy and it is held in a silent auction style. There will be music performed by the jazz band and individual students. There will be food for those participating in the auction.
Gallery Hall in the Wesley Center at First United Methodist Church, 211 Washington St., is open 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. weekdays and Sundays. Now on display is Fabulous Fiber featuring quilts made in the 1800s, hand-woven textiles, needlework from the 1800s, original hooked rugs, cross stitch and many other offerings.
The exhibit will remain on display until June when it will be replaced with Weddings Across the Centuries.
Several homes and gardens will be on the Historic Home and Garden Tour set for May 17-18. The theme for the event is Living in History and it's jointly sponsored by The Garden Club of Frankfort and the Colonial Dames of America. Tickets are $15 each and may be purchased at Liberty Hall on the tour days.
A May Market will also be held on May 17 at Liberty Hall.
Homes and gardens on the tour include Liberty Hall, The Beeches, the Bibb House, the Franklin County Alms House and Poor Farm, and the Frank Lloyd Wright House.
Gardens and other attractions include the gardens at Liberty Hall, the Halliday garden in Country lane, the Comley's garden in the Corner in Celebrities, the gardens and chapel at the Frankfort Cemetery, the gardens at the Old Governor's Mansion and the Governor's Mansion.

May is Preservation Month and the theme this year is Preservation Matters.
Salato Wildlife Education Center, Louisville Road, is now open for the spring. Hours of operation through May 31 are Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and 10-5 on Saturdays.

>Brown Bag Lunch "The Flight of the Honey Bee," noon, Wednesday May 14, noon-1 p.m. No cost, no limit. Dr. Tom Webster, bee specialist from Kentucky State University, will talk about the importance of bees.
Tickets are on sale now for $5 each for Cow Pasture Bingo set for 3 p.m. May 18 as part of this year's Project Graduation. Those purchasing tickets are eligible for a $1,000 prize and do not need to be present to win.

Liberty Hall Historic Site is open for tours Tuesday through Saturday at 10:30 a.m., noon, 1:30 and 3 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and $1 for students under 18 years of age. Children 4 and under are free. Tours begin at Liberty Hall and proceed to the Orlando Brown House.

Country Place Jamboree, 60 Old Sheep Pen Road, is open every Saturday night featuring classic country, 6-7, then from 7:30-10:30 continuous live country music with the Weekend Warriors Band and a different showcase artist each week. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3 for children ages 6-12.

Admission, which admits the ticket holder to both, is $4 for adults, $2 for youth 6-18, and free for children 5 and under. No ticket is required for the library or 1792 Store in the History Center.

Bagdad
Bagdad Days, an annual two-day festival in this small eastern Shelby County community about 10 miles west of Frankfort off US 60, begins Friday and continues all day Saturday, May 9-10.
Booths open at 11 a.m. Friday. Lunch will also begin being served then, too. A Little Miss and Mister Pageant begins at 6. Events continue until around 10 Friday night with the completing of "The Challenge of the Minds." Friday night dinner is at 5 with rides opening then, too.
A 5K (3.1-mile) Run/Walk is at 8 a.m. Saturday with the pancake breakfast beginning at 7:30. The parade begins at 10. Other festivities include a bakeoff (11 a.m.), pedal pull for kids (1 p.m.), auction (1:30), and corn hole tournament (6 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday). Things start winding down at about 4 p.m.

Lexington
The Frankfort-Lexington Chapter of The Links, Inc., is sponsoring its Ninth Annual Derby Eve Gala on FRIDAY at the Embassy Suites, 1801 Newtown Pike in Lexington.
Gala is a black-tie affair from 6:30 p.m. until midnight. It features a silent auction, dinner, dancing and a cash bar. The band, "Sweet Dreams", will provide music. Tickets are $60 per person. Lawrenceburg
Eagle Lake Country Music Show is presented every Saturday night beginning at 8 p.m. at the Eagle Lake Convention Center on U.S. 127 South, six miles from Interstate 64.
