While bleakness hit Frankfort's west side Thursday with Home Depot's closing announcement, some good news surfaced on the east side, according to development attorney Charlie Jones.

Jones said Sportsman's Warehouse is interested in opening a 54,000 square foot facility in the Parkside shopping center on Versailles Road by Interstate 64.
Sportsman's Warehouse sells hunting, fishing, camping and other outdoor gear, Jones said.

"Sportsman's Warehouse will be a tremendous asset and will draw regionally," Jones said. "They are big out west. There are probably a hundred stores across the country " including one in Lexington."

Jones said he is working with the company to file an application soon with the Frankfort/Franklin County Planning Commission. Sportsman's Warehouse is looking at the site adjacent to and in front of Kohl's department store, which opened in April.

Cattleman's Road House will be opening in about two weeks in Parkside, Jones said. Also, construction will begin in the next two weeks on a new Starbucks and Dairy Queen in Parkside, Jones said.

Meier's still remains "an outside possibility, Jones said. "Everybody's hopeful and a lot is still available there for them."
