Frankfort residents say rising gas prices will blunt the effect of the 130 million rebate checks designed to give the economy a jump-start.
However, many say they still have plans for the $600-$1,200 checks, the first batch of which started hitting bank accounts last week through direct deposits.
Millions of rebate checks are in the mail and have been issued according to the last two digits of the main filer's Social Security number. Payments are made by direct deposit or by mail, depending on how the 2007 tax return was filed.
Direct deposit payments will be transmitted no later than May 16.
Paper checks will be sent in a series of payments from May 16 to July 11. Those with digits falling between 00 and 09 will receive their stimulus checks by May 16, 19 through 25 by May 30 and 88 through 99 by July 11.
