A man who worked in the state garage on Holmes Street has been indicted for pirating and selling DVDs and CDs, prosecutors say.

Commonwealth's Attorney Larry Cleveland said Tommy Hayes, 35, of Shelbyville, was using his computer at the motor pool to produce the illegal copies of first-run movies and was selling them for about $5 a piece.

Hayes had a desk job at the state's T1-Garage and Inventory office and was selling the CDs and DVDs to his co-workers, Cleveland said.

Hayes was being investigated by the Kentucky Bureau of Investigation, which operated out of the state attorney general's office.

Hayes was formally charged with unauthorized reproduction and distribution of a recorded article or device for sale or rent, a class D felony.

The Franklin County grand jury on Wednesday also indicted a Frankfort couple for receiving stolen property after a stolen pickup wound up in their driveway, prosecutors said.

Mitchell R. Engler, 52, 3672 St. John Road, and his wife, April Engler, 56, had a black 1991 GMC pickup registered to an ownerfrom Bereain their possession, according to prosecutors.

Cleveland said state police asked the Englers in March about the truck parked in front of their house.
Cleveland said the Englers maintainedto investigators they didn't know anything about it and someone else must have recently parked it there.

The problem, Cleveland said, was that it had been snowing for three days and there was snow on the ground around the vehicle. Police saw no tracks indicating the truck had recently moved, Cleveland said.

The Englers are charged with receiving stolen property valued at $300 or more, a Class D felony.

Engler served 10 years in a state prison for first-degree assault, Cleveland said, adding that his wife has no felony convictions.

Teresa T. Stanley, 52, 855 Louisville Road #202, was also indicted possession of drug paraphernalia (second-offense).
