A “significant” gas line break caused Kings Daughters Drive to be closed for several hours Tuesday.
Frankfort Police Maj. Fred Deaton said they received a report of a gas line break at about 9:30 a.m.
Lisa Smith, director of communications for Columbia Gas, said a contractor working for the city was digging and hit a 4-inch medium pressure plastic gas line.
She said no customers were without service and that no injuries were reported. An incident like this highlights the importance of calling 811 to identify underground utilities before digging, Smith said.
“Whether you are a contractor or a basic residential home owner wanting to put in a fence, it’s always important to call,” she said.
Smith said the repairs were expected to be complete Tuesday afternoon.
Wayne Dominick, communications coordinator for Franklin County Schools, said Western Hills High School and Bondurant Middle School, both located nearby, were not evacuated.
