Franklin County Red Cross volunteers Bobby Turner and Jean Wilkins are working in Pike County to assist flood victims in eastern Kentucky.
A veteran volunteer of four hurricanes, Turner has worked in material support services for the Red Cross during Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Ike managing procurement and warehousing. He is filling a new position for this operation as job director.
Wilkins' experience includes financial and statistical information management for hurricanes Ike and Gustav, Tropical Storm Hanna and central Indiana floods as well as shelter manager for the recent ice storm.
The chapter emergency response vehicle left Tuesday for Maytown where the Red Cross the Southern Baptists kitchens will be supplying meals for residents. Certified ERV drivers Jay Johnson and John Williamson will be providing mobile feeding to clients in a multi-county area.
This is Johnson's second deployment with the ERV. He also served during hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
Williamson will be returning to eastern Kentucky where he staffed the ERV for the southeastern Kentucky floods in 2007. He has also worked in individual client services during the California wildfires and Iowa floods.
Locally chapter volunteer government liaison Chad Woolums has been working with the State Emergency Operations Center at Boone National Guard Center since Saturday. His role is to staff the Red Cross desk and transmit information between the Red Cross operation and other state agencies.
