"First you say you do, then you say you won't, I am undecided now, so what am I going to do?"
That us a line from an an old song I can't remember the name . . . . The song is about change.
The recent action by our Governor regarding extened gambling goes with this song.
If our Governor had been half as much obsessed with the real financial problems in our state . . . including tax reform . . . then maybe something would have been accomplished. Rather the Governor since day one has been obsessed with money for the breeders and tracks.
Fist he says: "Let the people vote!"
Then he says lets change the makeup of the Senate . .more D's.
Then he says: "The previous constitutional amendment covers the extended gambling for casinos and slots."
Then he says SPEAKER STUMBO HAS SOME SCHOOL MONEYF OR YOU IF YOU PASS EXTENDED GAMBLING.
What a misguided structure.
NOW Beshear SAYS:.
We don't want the public to vote.
(Why is that?)
It is much easier to buy/intimidate, lobby, members of the General Assembly than it is to change the gambling mood of hundreds of thousand others who oppose the issue. The Governor claims the HORSE INDUSTRY will be gone in Kentucky.
(That is absurd and misguided)
A decision by spectators to engage in other sports entertainment is one of the reasons horse wagering is down. And, what the Governor and his HORSE SET refuse to admit . . .(WHEN SLOTS ARE INTRODUCED AT THE RACE TRACK . . . WAGERING ON HORSES GOES DOWN. So this is not about saving the HORSES BREEDING as much as it is the HORSE INDUSTRY DID NOT CHALLENGE THE GAMBLING CASIONS YEARS AGO AND NOW THEY WANT A WALL STREET TYPE BAILOUT.)
Just now they see other types of wagering are taking money from the track betting. But that is OK with the HORSE SET as all they want is the money from gambling to sustain the lack of public interest in THOUROUGHBRED RACING.
