Your dog barking 24/7 really isn't that cute.

I have only been in Frankfort for a few years now. I have lived in Indian Hills and now the Silver Lake subdivision. Some residents of Frankfort seem to think that leaving their dog outside to bark constantly is amusing to their neighbors. I am not sure if the people who let their dogs bark all the time know this, but you can actually train your dog not to bark constantly. Every time I go into my back yard, I am "treated" to multiple dogs yapping at me. Many times the owners are outside and just stand there looking clueless. Here's a tip, tell Fido to hush, give him something to play with, pay attention to your dog, but please do something to quiet your barking dogs. Almost makes me think some type of test might be in order to become a dog owner.

I'm not calling dogs evil, but trying to point out that hearing my neighbors dog bark all the time is annoying. To be honest, in the case of the dogs in my neighborhood, most of the blame falls on the owners. They let Fido out and never pay any attention. I gave my neighbors dog a chew toy this weekend, it was bliss no barking. The dog just needed something else to get it's attention. Pretty simple, not sure why the owners can't figure it out, oh yeah they don't care!

It isn't funny when a barking dog keeps someone awake all night when they have to go to work the next day!! I'm retired so I'm not upset for myself.

Heavens to Betsy and Godfrey Daniel!
Such a namby-pamby land we now inhabit!
Why, in my day, should such a mongrel muster up the gumption to palaver in any way at any time, why by golly we would rouse ourselves up and challenge it to fisticuffs. Should the unthinkable occur and I were bested " and believe you me, I seldom was what with being Canine Fisticuffs Champion at the 1853 World's Fair (defeating Panzer in a grueling, 54-round bout) " why, then I would admit defeat and allow the pusillanimous creature free reign of the estate. Should I prove the better boxer, dire consequences indeed were in store.
Nowadays, we humble citizens must forever be wary of falling under the ire of such leftist, bleeding heart groups such as the ASPCA, Humane Society or God help us, the Little Orphan Annie Fan Club and Quilt Association of Anderson County (LOAFCQAAC for short)!
My fellow citizens, only when the tide of Communism " under the guise of the Democratic Party " is stemmed; only when women are once again back in the kitchen, there to better serve her family, speak only when spoken to, and generally leaving manly pursuits once again only to men; only when our militias are once again under the command of manly men " for women were created naught for the dirty work of protecting our nation, nor are dandies right in the eyes of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; only then will we, the Citizens, once again rule our own yards again.
May God I live long enough to see the smugness wiped from the face of the breed of DOG!
Yes, evil has a form, and its nose is WET!

For the record - Frankfort does have a noise ordinance. If a dog, person, car whatever is keeping someone awake you can always call the police. This action, obviously, will not endear you to your neighbors, but you should be able to sleep.

Technically speaking, they are both pets and property.

coptercrew: You don't obviously care too much for your dog to say it is not a member of your family. That dog wants to be inside with you! They are unconditional loving members of the family, period. Not pets and property.

Dogs are pets, not people for crying out loud. I don't bring my cows in and I don't bring my dog in. She has her own house...a DOG house. When she barks, it's because the deer get too close to the house or the electric guy is checking my meter.

I think my neighbors must have read this, yesterday they actually let their dog in after it had barked for only 3 hours straight. I guess it is never too late to teach your brain-dead neighbors new tricks.

Dogs can be trained not to bark inappropriately. I know. I've trained a number of dogs to never bark outdoors and indoors only when someone approaches the house. It takes time and commitment, but it's not rocket science. You just have to be smarter than the dog. That seems to be the primary problem among people who own barking dogs. And since when is leaving your dog outside all night not neglectful? If you want a dog, at least treat it decently and bring it indoors at night. Your dog will be healthier and happier and so will your neighbors.
