Frankfort RestaurantsApril 12, 2008
Anyone know what the latest rennovation is for at the Ace of whatever Club formerly known as Saylor's? Noticed that the black paint has been replaced with another color and that flowers have been planted down the left hand side. It's a shame that two established eateries in Frankfort have bit the dust and the buildings have been sitting idle for months.

I think the reason alot of people would rather visit chain restaurants is mainly due to price. Not taste. Take Gibby's for example..They completely RAPE on prices. Granted the food is prettty good but when I end up having to pay nearly $10 for two orders of fries and two drinks it put's a pretty bad tatse in my mouth.
And one place that wasn't mentioned here but Should have been was Nema's grille. They actually have reasonable prices and they offer things you definately can't get anywhere else in town like hooka's for example. Most of the places around here are boring, slow, and unoriginal in it's entirety. If you're thinking about opening a Mexican,Chinese, already a million of them restaurants FORGET IT. The market is already saturated. Restaurants in places like louisville thrive because they have DIVERSITY. As far as food goes gimmicks are cool. Nobody gives a crap about your version of hot browns or your bourbon burger. Let's see something new and furthermore something that actually makes me want to come back more than once every so often just out of some sort of conveinience.

"Saylor's"
Heard anything as to what happened at the auction May 10th?

My family ate at both Saylor's and the Pink Pig MANY times over the years. I always liked them both.

Saylors, when I moved here looked run down and more like just a seedy bar not a diner. I guess it is closed for good?
I wish they would just bulldoze it to the ground and start from scratch. The decline has been going on for years and I don't know if any of the Saylor family is still involved. The inside can't be much with decades of grease and smoke trapped within those walls. The golf course crowd hangs out at Casa now and the legislators are at Serafini's or the Holiday Inn downtown. Saylor's used to be one of the places that had its own Derby Breakfast for those that didn't want to wait in line at the Capitol. When one of the past owners didn't have a Derby Breakfast advertised it probably should have been a red flag.

I don't know the Pink Pig, but Saylors, when I moved here looked run down and more like just a seedy bar not a diner. It also had the appearance of being closed until the tanning place moved in for a while. Then the great remodeling announcement came and the 'Ace of Clubs' place opened, which even more sounds like just a bar. Hardly any effort was made to improve the outside appearance of the building. They did some work on the parking lot, that was pretty much it. Now they repainted the building (that color is just terrible IMO), put the sign back up for the "Ace of Clubs" and put an "Auction" sign right next to it. I guess it is closed for good?

In my opinion the reason Salyors and the Pink Pig had to close is that so many Frankfort residents would rather have junk food from chain restaurants like McDonalds and other "fast food" place than patronize locally owned restuarants. These locally owned restuarants have much better food, the prices are generally reasonable and you can get your lunch and eat within the 30 minutes you stated as necessary. If more people would seek out the local resturants (i.e. Adleias, Miss Ramey's, Candleberry's, Gibby's Melanie's, Claire Ann's, Market Cafe. etc) these places will be able to stay in business and our local economy would be improved. Those who think that the restaurant selection in Frankfort is poor, haven't tried one of our locally owned treasurers! There is good food at reasonable prices in Frankfort, you just have to patronize the places that offer it.

I'm beginning to believe that the Bombay Brazier restaurant on Carson Place doesn't care if they stay in business in Frankfort. I planned on going to lunch there today. When I got there, they were closed. Only sign up announced that they would no longer be open for dinner because of low turnout.
I've been there during lunch several times and the crowd has ranged from pretty good to crowded. I feel that when the owners/managers decided to open this type of restaurant they didn't do a very good job of researching the Frankfort market. I think that at least half of the people in Franklin Co. have never had Indian food and don't have a clue what it taste like. Some won't try it no matter what. The owners should have found out that the major lunch crowd is Monday thru Friday and ranges anywhere from 11:00p until 2:00p. And that most people have about a half-hour to eat when it comes to fighting the traffic for the other half-hour. I think they should have started with a buffet-style lunch when they first opened. Along with the limited time people have for lunch, some people would be more likely to sample from a buffet until they get to know the food. I think the owners had high expectations when they opened, but I also feel that they wanted great results in a short period of time. I'm not sure if they been open a year yet. Oh well if they close, they close. I'm sure some other restaurant will take their place just because of the location.

They put the "Ace of Clubs" sign back up earlier this week.
Guess the mystery's solved. There's a For Auction sign on the front of the building. They have taken some time to clean up around the front and plant flowers - that does strike me as odd because no one ever did that before. Closest to flowers were tomato plants on the golfcourse side. Even after remodeling the inside never looked or smelled much different to me. But, paint is cheap.

Frankfort's restaurant selection is terrible- worst in KY. Why is it that Bowling Green has every restaurant you could possibly want, and Frankfort has nothing good, except the Thai restaurant? Both are on the interstate, miles from the nearest big city.
