Sirens

I am pleased to say that somebody must have heard our complaints about the siren at the Evergreen Road Fire Station. While it was inaudible during the last big storm, where complaints came from multiple places not just the Evergreen area, and barely audible during the next siren test after the storm (just barely audible outside the house), I heard this month's test of the siren loud and clear inside my house with windows and doors closed and TV on regular volume strength. Thanks to whoever cared enough to check into this matter and to improve the situation!

The sirens serve a useful purpose, but they do have limitations. I recently purchased a couple of the Midland WR100 All Hazards NOAA Weather Radios with S.A.M.E. technology (Specific Area Message Encoding). These units can be programmed to receive alert information for specific counties. The radio also has a battery backup in case of a power outage. WKYT, Kroger and Midland Radio Corp. have teamed up to offer these radios at a reduced price. I would recommend one for every home.

It's still nice to hear them working again! If disaster strikes any sign of warning is better than none.

I still wouldn't rely on them. They stopped working once, they'll probably stop again.

Well, before you could barely hear it outside either. Unless you actively listened to it and it was otherwise completely quiet, and I mean completely quiet. And I really don't live far from that fire station. I see this as a major improvement. I am glad somebody has listened to our complaints and taken measures to improve the situation.

But remember ... the siren is not designed to be heard inside a persons home. is is to alert people who are outside.
