this is something important that could affect citizens and one should be able to read for FREE.

lock al the other junk

Not the point. If you want to read a newspaper in its totality for free, you can always write your own. That's commerce. SJ isn't a charity. It's not a government service. It doesn't have to provide you with anything for free, whether it takes in advertising or not.

If you can't get out and buy a paper, you can subscribe to the online-only service. Or, like a lot of folks on here, you could just keep complaining about not being allowed to get for free what the S-J is trying to sell. Complaining's more fun, I know.
