Bondurant Middle Schools archery team has been invited to participate at the International level at the National Archery in the Schools (www.nasp.com) World competition in Orlando, FL in October. Bondurant is the ONLY local school to participate. As all of us know, the economy has made times rough for all, but we as parents also know we hate to have our financial constraints render our children unable to participate in functions.
That is why we have teamed up with Papa John's pizza, both East and West locations, to raise money for the kids to make the trip. From 09/07 -09/21 all you have to do is order as usual and save the sticker on the box (stick it to any piece of paper) that has the total amount of your order on it. That's it, that simple. You can then contact Debbie at ibdeb@hotmail.com or Charlie at charlie@dcr.net and we will arrange to pick them up or send you a stamped/self addressed envelope to mail them. If you know anyone at Bondurant, you can give them the stickers and they can drop them in the office. The team receives 20% of the total collected.
Thank you for your help!

Elkhorn Middle School is just now working on an archery program. We are in the process of raising funds to purchase the equipment. There is a lot of interest in this and it is a great opportunity for the kids. My son enjoys archery and is excited about the program.
Good luck to you at Bondurant and maybe we will see you out there in the future.

The archery program has had a tremendous effect on the kids and the school as a whole. As archery is not as "physical" as football or basketball, it allows kids that may otherwise be unable to participate to play on a school team and feel that sense of accomplishment as well. For some of these kids, they may not have ever met one another without this team. My son, who is also on the football team has stated exactly that. It's unfortunate, but clicks exist and this has helped to break down that barrier.
As I am the one that arranged the fundraiser and posted this article, I want to respond to a few of the posts:
"Why can't the parents pay for it?" Actually, they are. However, we have many that have more then one child to stretch the budget between and maybe more then one on the team and that can become quite costly. We also have some families that simply couldn't do it without any help. No one is asking for a handout, everyone is paying / contributing something. We want our kids and all the kids that qualified to participate to be able to go. If I could pay for them all, I would, but instead we have to hope that some folks still realize that these kids are our future and what we are able to do for them in all respects (education, athletics, home) will shape who/what they become as adults.
"We can't get people to fundraise for shelters" - Not true. The unfortunate part about the fundraisers that alot of the "shelters" have is that they in and of themselves are expensive and limit the fundraising pool. I can't afford a couple of hundred bucks for a table at some gala, and truth is, with kids, work, extra curricular activities, etc. I don't really have time. I also don't golf, which seems to be a big thing when the shelters fundraise, so those like me (dangerous with a golf club!) wouldn't be the first in line to help. If they were to set up fundraising activities that allowed more of the "general" population to be included, I would venture to say that it would happen.
Thank you to those that have turned in stickers and/or have contacted one of us in the email. We will gladly send you a self addressed stamped envelope or arrange another method of retrieving any stickers you have. You may also drop them by the school if you are in the area. We also want to thank all of you that stopped by the booth during the Bridgeport Ruritan festival...fun was had by all.
Just so everyone knows, the kids are taught from the beginning that bows and arrows are not toys. They are taught the safety precautions and rules. They are drilled regarding what you can and can't do and I would trust my son and his teammates with this equipment alot faster then I would myself.
Again, thank you to all those that have already contributed and keep buying pizza!!!
GO BRAVES!

I didnt take that comment as offensive; I guess I was trying to "inform" the public that archery fundamentals are or should be taught correctly in the schools.
I actually think alot of these posts are rather comical......
Have a great day Need & Ranger

Daniel, take your last post (#10), strike the words Bow & arrows, and insert the word guns. (reads like the current health care bill doesn't it?)
Then you will have decipherd my feeble attempt at humor.

Bow & arrows are ONLY dangerous if you allow them to be. That is why during the practices @ the local schools they are taught "bows on toes" load on my whistle and then shoot the arrow.
