I used to enjoy checking the State Journal and reading the articles, and seeing other people's point of view and humor and bickering thru the comments, but not anymore. This web site is a complete bore now! Anyone else agree?

I want the SJ for local news about local events and local people. I personally do not think the SJ does very well in covering local stories.State and national news I get from other sources.

I have grown up with the SJ, now 70 years, and I have never expected it to offer more than what it was intended to be. As the "state journal", it is the paper that reports what goes on in state government and how this impacts Frankfort, our "one industrial town". We get a whole lot of perspective on just about everything that goes on in Frankfort and Franklin County from the newspaper and the reporters very professionally dovetail community affairs into state government as and when appropriate. A good example is the county's undertaking the new judicial center and planning and zoning affairs pitted against new state highway and facility construction projects. Boy we can certainly attest to how our state legislature has historically "spiced up" the juicy news local subscribers can read about in their hometown SJ. I might add for some months I thought the reporting quality had slacked off a bit too much by focusing too much on the local high schools and clubs and athletics, that it began to read like the SJ was not much more than a high school weekly paper, and so I nearly cancelled my subscription. I do think there is a great opportunity for us ghost writers to write pretty much as we please on the SJ online pages and not everybody has to read some of the "hogwash" that appears online from time to time. I applaud all readers for writing graciously and not writing offensive, crude or distasteful remarks. Most recently, I thought the SJ covered the tragic Amanda Ross and Steve Nunn story with every bit as much insight and talent as the LHL and Courier Journal. Don't expect the SJ to ever be the NY Times or Washington Post, but for a small town, capital city newspaper, it does an excellent job to capture the spirit of the Frankfort area and conveys with magnificence to outsiders what we are all about and further, that Frankfort reaches out to State Government and SG in return functions compatibly with being located in a small town. Frankfort as an exciting place to live and work (which it is never going to be) sort of "seeps through" the content of the SJ's articles, so one can not get their "Yawn" from the actual write-up of stories and reporting of events and news flashes. On the other hand, we as a small town have come a long way historically to become more cosmopolitan (especially compared to my childhood days so, so many decades ago) and as such, overall, the quality and sophistication in the SJ's press coverage has become far and away one hell of a lot more "progressive" and pleasing to read every afternoon. I would therefore opt on the side of maintaining a very favorable endorsement of the SJ and encourage everyone in Frankfort to understand how it as a business and vehicle of media communications, has magnanimously enhanced the betterment and advancement in the quality of life in the past half-century and beyond.

Ducks quack, chicks and birds cheep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't have an angry bone in my body, I haven't gone off like a cheap Chinese rocket in a long, long time. Anger is a bad thing, I may be obnoxious and cantankerous , However not angry.........

Cheep? really? Isn't that what little ducks do?
Jerry is an angry gentleman.
verb (used without object)
1. to chirp; peep.
2. Chiefly South Midland U.S. to reveal or tell a secret (usually used in the phrase cheep it).
Did we "reveal or tell a secret"...Yeah, no secret that every SJ article is LOCKED.

"It isn't about being CHEAP skates (not cheep skates), it is about news."

WTH?
My statement was a fact, not a complaint. Fewer people with access, fewer people to debate a subject.
LMBO Tamed, I would of done the "WTF", however, you are surely more sophisticated than I, Hence the "TAMED"-Shrew. You get him girl. Me thinks he suffers from ignorance, and a lack of civility from time to time. Time to Time LOL.

"Smartgirl..sorry my post bored you to the point of mocking me."
Far from boring me. I liked your story. And I wasn't mocking you, I truly enjoy watching the posts evolve into totally different things, I really do.
And whoever said I worked for the state, well...far from it.

Hello, sg. It's good to see you and Tyler on here still as well. As for a good majority of the other negative, mean-spirited people on here, it is a shame to bring your negativity on my opinion piece. I like happy, funny, nice people who do not rely on making fun of and being a dbag to people just because they're opinion is different from yours.(pointing at Daniel.)
Anyway, I'm glad to see a lot of people think the same as myself. It's boring, I can spend $4 on something else, and read unlocked articles elsewhere, and yes I'm cheap and proud of it!
