If you want something done about that place e-mail=outreach@aspca.org. Bypass the people in Frankfort, because if you have not figured it out yet, THEY ARE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING.

The FCHS should take anything and everything that people need to bring in or find, even if they have to euthanize. Our city animal control officer is currently on 'indefinate leave of absence'= getting paid for not doing his job, so all the strays in the city are not getting picked up. Believe me, I have picked up 4 dogs just this month alone, that doesn't even count the cats and kittens, and that also doesn't count the strays I couldn't catch that were in the roadways. I had an injured dog dumped on my property that is next to an abandoned cow farm and when I called the county animal control officer to come and help he pulled up, took one look at the dog in the field and said 'well you can't catch them all'. I remind you that this was an INJURED dog that was suffering. I asked to borrow a live dog trap since I called everywhere I could think of in surrounding cities and no one had any and he said that they were all being used so I couldn't use one. Even though this seems that this situation is his JOB but hey I guess he is getting paid for doing nothing. And I didn't even want them to come and get the dog, just come and help me catch it, because I knew if it went to that shelter it would get swiftly euthanized. I understand that the shelter doesn't want to have to put a bunch of animals down, but if they don't want to accept all the strays and owner turn ins from the community then they should not be allowed to accept tax money. That is their job. I personally thing there should be a complete overhaul of all animal control personnel in Frankfort. In other cities the 'dog warden' is elected. In Frankfort it has been FOREVER since we have elected a dog warden. One of the last ACOs was fired because he was collecting strays and taking them home to his own personal dog fighting ring.
All I can say is something NEEDS to change in Frankfort. It is absolutely ridiculous what is allowed to happen. We are the Capitol people, we should be setting an example for the rest of the state.
All you can do is support your local rescues, and when you hear about animal laws trying to be passed go and vote and let your presence be known. That is the only way anything is going to change.
Oh, and just so everyone knows, Kentucky is ranked #50 in our country when it comes to animal rights.

There are also shot clinics in the summer, to encourage everyone to license their pet.

Pet licenses are available at every vet office. You get your shots and you get the license, done. You do not have to do them only at the Humane Society.

If our community cannot afford to build a new Humane Society in a more accessible location at this time, we should at least make pet licenses available at veterinary offices. I've been guilty of neglecting to license my dog since it's not something I think about every day and rarely drive by the area to even turn off toward the HS. My day off is Monday so when I do have time to license my dog, they are closed. By making licenses more readily available, more income would be brought in.

Need: I have the same issue and my strays are now fat and sassy. :)
Licensing is required in Frankfort, if you get your dog/cat taken down to the death chamber, you will know that, because you have to show proof of the license.

Once again, I've been the victim of a "drive by catting" Just because I live in the boonies doesn't mean I have lots of room for critters. Lucky for kitty, we just happened to have a "vacancy" this time. Do your own dirty work people.

I know one thing - don't allow your pets to wonder around freely without being on a leash. The Animal Control Officers are closely watching and they will "sweep up" your pet before you know it. You won't have one.

hmm--I thought they did require licensing but didn't enforce it so not many follow through.

Since moving to Franklin County, I have found it "odd" that the county does not require licensing of pets. Most communities do require it with the funds going to support the local Humane Society.

If you will email the email address above, you should receive adquate assistance. NO-ONE in Frankfort or Franklin County is going to help you. Our local humane society deserves more than what they are currently receiving - nothing. They have to do "tricks" and beg for dog and cat food, and then, they don't receive much from the public. I really feel sorry for them. My email name sounds terrible, I know, but there are some things I have emotional feelings about, and this is one. If I had the money, I would like to build a new humane society to a new and central location where they would have better access to the public. God, please help these people.
