There seems to be some confusion as to what the meaning of Christmas is all about. There is only one reason for the season and that is the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If you are not a believer than you really have absolutely nothing to celebrate.
Christmas is a Christian holiday and I can't figure out why that offends so many people. They want to us to call a Christmas tree a holiday tree when there would not be a holiday at all if it was'nt for Christ.Christmas is not about Santa Claus, that is for kids, unless the ACLU and the government believes in Santa Claus and not in GOD or Jesus. They say a Christmas tree offends them, well I say get a life.People offend me every time I get in my car to go to work each day. That is what we do most of the time as people,we offend.Sometimes you can just look at someone and they are offended, but we have to ignore these things and try to get along or there would be no peace at all in our lives. If it is not a Christmas tree,it is nothing but a tree that costs a lot of taxpayer's money to erect and display for nothing.Christmas comes once a year and if Christians have to put up with all the other beliefs and celebrations that we find offensive, than non-believers should leave our holiday alone.

Ellie is a dork....

Second, learn how to properly use grammar, if you are going to post, as in "here we go again", not "hear".

It appears that the Grinch is alive and well in America. The latest grinchish act, is in Frankfort in the changing of the name of the Christmas tree, to the "holiday tree". I think I'm living in some alien nation lately. Why?? Why is the Christmas tree suddenly offensive, and to whom? The America I grew up with was founded on the basic principles of freedom of worship, along with other fundamental rights. Slowly over the years, I've witnessed a slow progressive erosion of some of our most cherished traditions and rights, especially those concerning Christmas.

I've been baptized 3 times in my life, as a Methodist, Catholic, and a Christian, Studied religion from 3 perspectives and fair to say none took. Can't say I don't believe in a higher being, Just saying not sure if I believe in the story. Lets face it, it is a story. A great read and a good way to live life and I do, only because it's the right thing to do, Not the religious thing to do. I haven't put up a tree or shopped for gifts in years. Many so called Christian's celebrate "Santa" and not the birth of there savior. However, CHRISTMAS is about the Birth of CHRIST! Plain and simple. . Believe or not, It is not about wrapping paper, it is not about trees and ornaments, it is not about POLITICAL CORRECTNESS YA GOOBERS! That's the "Hallmark Holiday", It is about the Birth of the Christian Savior. Not Kwanza, or the Minoria.

Christmas is a Christian Holiday. Don't like it? Don't want to hear the word CHRISTmas? Don't listen. Wanna partake then you have to understand and accept the reason for the celebration. Christmas has become so commercialized The "Hallmark Holiday" so to speak, that non Christians partake in it but get insulted! WHAT! WHAT'S up with that. ....Don't Participate! SIMPLE!

I'm tired of the Political Correctness Run amuck and tired of people screaming they have been "Offended"... LIFE IS OFFENSIVE, GROW UP, SHUT THE HELL UP AND DEAL WITH IT!!

I have an Idea Send the Governor and the ACLU Christmas Cards, and make sure it say "Merry Christmas". Since they are working so very hard to get rid of the "Christmas" part of this holiday, all should send them a nice Christmas card to brighten up their dark, sad little world.

Two tons of Christmas cards would freeze their operations because they wouldn't know if any were regular mail containing contributions, so spend 43 cents and tell the Governor and the ACLU to leave "Christmas" alone. Also tell them there is no such thing as a "Holiday Tree"... it's a "Christmas Tree"... even in the fields! You can get the Gov's addy, here is the ACLU's 125 Broad Street, 18th Floor New York, NY 10004-2427.

Actually, I leave people alone unless they run a public smear campaign like little ellie.

Where in town don't Christians leave you alone? Well, except for JWs knocking on the doors. I don't care if other symbols are put up and other religions' celebrations are acknowledged by the state/schools/communities. I do care when you infringe on my celebrations because they don't conform with your beliefs. I do care, when you start renaming things for the sake of uniformity and because you want to celebrate but don't want to be a Christian.

If you don't want to display a tree on public grounds because the state shouldn't. Fine. Just don't rename things. That's infringing on Christian rights since no other religion has such symbols. Well, except for consumerism non-Christians who think they have to celebrate Christmas the way the stores want them to.

"Christmas comes once a year and if Christians have to put up with all the other beliefs and celebrations that we find offensive, than non-believers should leave our holiday alone."

- IF ONLY it were true that you would "put up" with everyone else, and leave people alone who don't agree with you, BUT that is not the case.

Lol, now we have real Christians and fake? Ellie, you are getting funnier by the second.

Yes, JWs don't celebrate that stuff because of the pagan origin and because early Christians didn't.

The link catwoman provided is from the Restored Church of God. They are not JW, which has just a bit older origins. RCG follows WCG (worldwide church of God) principles. However, there are some similarities between WCG and JW.

To truly understand you have to dig deeper into theology and different believe systems. Superficial touching on subjects just doesn't do it.

Wow, catwoman... what an interesting link you posted. Although they didn't say it, I'm wondering if this is the Jehovah's Witness view? Backed up with scripture quotes and everything. Assuming that everything that was written is legit (BIG assumption there), I can see why it would cause consternation for the 'real' Christians (no offense intended, GrammarGal).

Actually, GrammarGal, trying said you were a JW in the holiday tree thread, so this is where this is coming from. If you happen to read this thread and subsequently, the link provided by catwoman, can you confirm if this is JW related? Just curious.

Eh, I really don't get all that upset with stores saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas".

Think about it for a second, do we want what Christmas has become in the malls, stores, etc to represent our religion?

Somewhere along the way, we replaced "Peace on Earth, goodwill toward Man" with "take my parking spot and I'll blow your f#$king head off!".

I celebrate Christmas in the way I think a Christian should, but I'm not about to sit here and try to force it on people. On the same note, people who are complaining about Christmas being forced on them should stay home. Don't go to the stores. Don't buy anything Christmas related. Go to work on December 25th.

There was a comedian (I know Larry the Cable Guy said it, so I'm sure someone else said it first): "20% off and a day off work are for believers of Jesus!"
