This Sunday morning I was at East Erankfort Park and noticed some person (and I use that word loosely) had tied a puppy to the one of the picnic tables near the Dog Park and left it....with a bag of puppy chow and a blanket.
The puppy was, of course, adorable, although it was trembling because it was scared and alone and relished the fact that someone had taken the time to provide it some company.
I didn't know what to do - I have a houseful of dogs so there's no room here - so I left it, hoping that this beautiful day would lend itself to many people coming to the Park and that someone has room in their heart (and their home) for a lost little soul.
To whomever tied that puppy to the picnic table and left it, you could have taken to the shelter and because it's a puppy it might have a chance to find a home much better than yours. I doubt that doing the right thing if you can't keep a dog ever occurred to you. There's a special place in Hell for someone who did what you did..
He's still sitting up there right now. I intend on going back this afternoon and making sure he doesn't spend this night the way he spent the last.
Please someone.......

Yes I agree completely! Many of the dogs off craigslist are stolen, puppy mills, bad breeders, people breaking contracts from where they got their dogs, etc etc etc. I hate Craigslist because the bad people on there ruin it. Always meet the people during the day and take someone with you. I have had so many bad experiences off there. Yes I am getting a 'deal' but I had to watch over my shoulder to get it. Everyone would be much better off and there wouldn't be 'dropped puppies' if everyone would adopt rather than buy. People don't realize how many animals are being killed in our shelters because they have no where to go, meanwhile all these local 'breeders' continue to make more. Its like the saying "Please don't breed or buy when pets in shelters die!" or "Breeders kill shelter dog's chances."

Thanks, friends. Would you agree that shopping on Craigslist is rather dangerous? Wouldn't I be more safe adopting through "petfinder"? I would rather adopt than to buy one from anywhere. You don't know where they are coming from. Do you agree?
Piranha, go to www.petfinder.com. If you go there you can get a dog that is 100% vetted, and you will be saving a life rather than buying from a 'breeder' or a puppy mill. Many shelters offer low cost adoptions, which means you do pay a little or some, but you don't have to vet the animal at all. This is particularly important when getting a puppy because many 'breeders' don't vet their pups at all, or they don't vet them properly. If you do get something off of craigslist, just be extremely careful, as many questions as to where they got the dog, and if I were you I would type up a generic 'form' which states they are signing the dog over to you. I know this from experience because the majority of craigslist is scammers and crazies. Just be careful.
My wife and I are looking for a pet, a "lap-dog". We prefer a Shih-Tzu, Brussels Griffon, Westie or some type of small terrier. If there is a charge, we can't afford much. She wants a small dog to keep her company during the day and evenings while I work. We love animals and they are in excellent care with us. If you hear of anything, please let me know. Any help will be much appreciated.

There are other animal rescues in town also. If you go to www.Petfinder.com you will see that there is also Pawsabilities Unleashed, who could help with the situtaion, Country Critters Animal Rescue who is opening a facility on Grandview Drive, Tier Haven who could help place the animal if they couldn't take it in, and GRR Midwest who could have helped get someone to rescue the animal also.
You should NEVER leave an animal in a situation like that. Yes, the shelter charges citizens who drop their animals off, but they consider it to be 'your animal' if you have had possession of it for 7 days. If you found it in a park like that you should have called animal control or the police if you weren't going to take it home. It is their JOB to take care of situation. You should never just leave it there for someone else to maybe or maybe not do something with it. Its like they say in Batman, its not what you say but what you do that defines you. :)

FrankfortresidentKY: You must work at LIFEHOUSE. Do you mind if I ask your first name? I have been out there before just to look around.

Life House is a great organization. I like that it is a no-kill shelter. Last year, I got a year-old male dog from LH. They got him as a puppy. I still have no idea why nobody adopted him over that time. We had some issues with him at first dealing with separation anxiety. But, those subsided, thankfully, after a bit. Saylor is a happy, healthy member of the family. He's sitting at my feet as I type this. Thanks, Life House, for Saylor and the Saylors of the world.

Piranha, you are right, it is $25 to drop one off there. We don't charge at LIFE house, but we are SOOOOO Full right now, we are over our limits and most is based on the fact that people have not spayed and neutered their pets. You are right, this is why people are dropping them off...
