On December 16, 2009 at 6pm, there will be a public forum at Paul Sawyer Public Library to address the closure of the West Side Post Office/Convience Center.
The initial reason for the potential closing was an increase in rent. That reason is no longer an issue, but the "powers to be" would still like to close this location despite the fact that it generates considerable revenue.
If this location closes, anyone who rents a PO Box will then be forced to the main location on Wilkinson Blvd or find other options. If they decide to keep the boxes only open, those persons will still be forced to go to the main location for any postage due, certified mail or any other postal transactions. Businesses will be forced to waste stationary and shoulder an expense to update information in order to reflect this change should boxes not be available.
Granted the location is cramped for parking, but would you rather drive across the river to the main location? The Postal Service is trying to keep this information from the public. No public outcry, no problems with this closure.
So mark your calendars now to attend this forum to voice your opposition, otherwise, don't complain if the location closes.

The signs stating the Westside PO will reduce it's hours has been removed as of this morning. 11/25. The guarenteed time for mail in the boxes has now been pushed back from 9am to 11am.

According to the sign on the door, December 19th is when the reduced hours will start. Note that is is AFTER the scheduled forum on December 16th. Could this be a peace offering to keep it open?? I have not talked to my sources to find out yet.

Someone should call and invite cable 10 to record this meeting. The West-side post office should remain open. It's convenient when you're doing business on the west side and you don't have to drive so far to do business at the one on Wilkinson Blvd. This makes it easy just to drop by and purchase stamps and/or mail letters. Please keep it open for the west-side residents' use.

In response to nicholsby2 I believe the hearing is being held by the Post Office so they can explain why they want to close the Post Office. I can't wait to hear that!

The Postmaster of Frankfort has decided to go ahead and reduce the Retail Service hours at Westside Station Post Office without any explanation. Starting December 18th they won't open until 10:45 (currently 9am).
No hearing, no explanation, no one to answer to.

One does not have to drive to the PO to buy stamps. Use the postage paid envelope provided, put your check in, drop in mailbox and you have your stamps within 2 days delivered to your mailbox. I realize other transactions require a trip to the PO but it is a waste of time and gas to drive there JUST for stamps.

One more question please, is this forum the only way for the Post Office to hear the public outcry regarding this closing or will there be a more formal request at a later date?

Will the "powers that be" also be attending this public forum or will it just be people who are against the closing of this facility?
