fpb peaceful protest

Recently I bought a new T.V and VCR. I contacted the fbp and asked if I still had to rent a box. Their Standard response is that you still have to rent a box. I contacted Radio Shack in order to purchase a converter box and they said they wouldn't sell them because they may not be compaitable to the new fpb system.
Basically FPB is telling us we have to rent their box in order to pay for the perks of the fpb ( see previous articles in the state journal).The fpb won't tell us what kind of box we can buy that is compatable with thier new system. The fpb board is ramming this down our throats and telling us we have no choice.
I say there is a choice. We can stage peaceful protests untill either the fpb releases the information so that we can buy a box OUTSIDE their system or until John Higginbotham is fired. Am I the only one mad about this? I say we meet in peaceful protest every monday at noon at the fpb untill something changes.

@awsommanofGod:

You keep referring to "perks for the bigwigs at the FPB" from a previous SJ article. I don't remember seeing that. Can you please post the link to that article or at least tell us when it published?

You aren't required to take a box if you don't want. You can use a TV with a digital tuner. ALL TVs SOLD AFTER MARCH 1, 2007 HAVE A DIGITAL TUNER. You have to *request* the number of cable boxes you want from FPB. They don't tell you how many you're going to take.

Macha posted the following which brings up a good question.
"Posted by Macha January 13, 2010

@RobertF:

True, but I'd bet anyone would be hard pressed to find a TV that could tune an over-the-air digital signal and not a cable digital signal."
Is Macha correct?
No one knows. The Plant Board is not going to tell us that is for sure. At least not until they cram a cable box down every throat they can.
Of Course all the profit they make on renting out cable Boxes can be used to fund the perks for the bigwigs at the FPB. ( See previous State Journal article on those perks)
Join the cable box rebellion! If you wantto protest these Cable boxes we have several options. 1. show up mondays at noon at the downtown fpb ,2. call and complain,3. e-mail the fpb and complain or 4.show up at their monthly meetings and complain.5. ALL of the above
This summer , when they switch over to the new system, it will be to late. Join the rebellion now!

The best and most effective form of protest is to not buy the product. Switch to satellite and be done with it. I've had dish for 8 tears and DirecTV before that. No regrets.

Information found at FCC's Digital Transition Web Site:

IS MY T.V. DIGITAL?
==================================================
All Digital T.V. sets have labels or markings that may contain the words "Integrated Digital Tuner," "Digital Tuner Built-In," "Digital Receiver," "Digital Tuner," "DTV," "ATSC," or "HDTV."

The Commission's digital tuner rule specifies that as of March 1, 2007, all new TV sets must include digital tuners.

Can Cable Companies Make it Mandatory to Subscribe?
==================================================
If a cable company makes the business decision to go all-digital, it must ensure that its analog customers can continue to watch their local broadcast stations. This may require some customers to get a set-top box. Contact your cable company to ask if a set-top box will be needed, when it will be needed, and if there will be a cost. Any related costs will be determined by the cable company.

What about a Email protest? Somebody needs to write a good protest letter and post it somewhere so we can copy and paste it to a Email. FRANKFORT LETS FLOOD THE FPB WITH EMAIL!

Staging peaceful protests will accomplish nothing, except give FPB a good laugh. Do you really think they care how you feel? As long as they don't have to change, they won't.
