Why does fpb threaten us with bringing baseball bats to a peaceful protest? (see Posted by RobertF December 30, 2009
From Mr. Higginbotham:

I will be bringing a baseball bat to the protest.)
Could it be that they want to hide the fact that most new digital T.V.'s do not have a QAM converter? Most likely even if you buy a new digital T.V. you will still have to rent a box.
Mothers do you want to enslave your Children and your Childrens Children to these boxes?
Starting on January 4th at noon we can stage a peaceful protest at the headquarters of FPB (317 W second Street).It will be small at first but if we meet every monday at noon it will continue to grow until the truth comes out.
Are we going to let the threat of violence stop our peaceful protest? You decide.

For reasons all my own I am stepping down as the Leader of the Cable Box rebellion. Despite what you may think ,it has nothing to do with the threat of violence at these protests.
The cause is just. The profit made from these Box rentals is merely a hidden rate hike and hurt the poor the most. The profits made from these Cable Boxes can be used to fund the perks for the bigwigs at the fpb.Therefore I am hopeful that someone will Rise up and take over Leadership of the Cable Box rebellion of 2010. Are you up to the Challenge?

@awsommanofGod:

You keep referring to "perks for the bigwigs at the FPB" from a previous SJ article. I don't remember seeing that. Can you please post the link to that article or at least tell us when it published?

You aren't required to take a box if you don't want. You can use a TV with a digital tuner. ALL TVs SOLD AFTER MARCH 1, 2007 HAVE A DIGITAL TUNER. You have to *request* the number of cable boxes you want from FPB. They don't tell you how many you're going to take.

Macha posted the following which brings up a good question.
"Posted by Macha January 13, 2010

@RobertF:

True, but I'd bet anyone would be hard pressed to find a TV that could tune an over-the-air digital signal and not a cable digital signal."
Is Macha correct?
No one knows. The Plant Board is not going to tell us that is for sure. At least not until they cram a cable box down every throat they can.
Of Course all the profit they make on renting out cable Boxes can be used to fund the perks for the bigwigs at the FPB. ( See previous State Journal article on those perks)
Join the cable box rebellion! If you wantto protest these Cable boxes we have several options. 1. show up mondays at noon at the downtown fpb ,2. call and complain,3. e-mail the fpb and complain or 4.show up at their monthly meetings and complain.5. ALL of the above
This summer , when they switch over to the new system, it will be to late. Join the rebellion now!

"Mr. Higginbotham did not make that statement about the bat. And whoever the RobertF guy is that posted that is a LIAR and trying to mislead all of you folks on here."

Another one? I guess some people do not read posts in their whole form. For Pete's sake, ddog1812! Read Robert's original post completely! Robert did not claim that Mr. H made the statement about the bat. RobertF quoted a post that Higginbotham submitted to this site staeing that the dta box would not be needed if you have a qam tuner in your tv. Robert was the one who said that he was bringing a bat to the protest.

You misread the post just as awsommanofGod did. Most of us understood Robert's sarcasm. As in knocking some sense into one particular protester who apparently does not do proper technical research. RobertF did not attack John at all! Which as been pointed out by two or three other SJ users.

Despite the weather it is going very well. Obviously some people (probally connected to fpb) fear us enough to try and discourage us.Lets keep it up and it will grow!
If you can not be at the peaceful protest on monday's at noon, but don't like these boxes you can write , e-mail and call and complain at the fpb. Or attend the next Board meeting . The Frankfort Plant Board holds monthly meetings of its Board of Directors on the third Tuesday of every month. Meetings are scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Plant Board Clubhouse located at 92 Tanglewood Drive. Board of Director's meetings are open to the public.

Mr. Higginbotham did not make that statement about the bat. And whoever the RobertF guy is that posted that is a LIAR and trying to mislead all of you folks on here. Dont attack John Higginbotham, he is an employee at FPB just like the rest of the good people there who provide you with very competetive utilities and communication prices. And for all of you who dont seem to get it, there is competitiion, satellite, dsl, etc. Go get it and see how quickly they come out on a cold night to get your TV back on, I know FPB will be there, they always have been. Most of you know how to resolve anything without a personal attack on someone. The fact is, John Higginbotham is a good person as well as a good superintendent for the Cable Dept. No, I dont work for him, but I know the operation very well, trust me.Oh, and if you will notice, they haven't fired him yet, nor will they probably ever, because the fact is he has actually saved all of you a ton by going to battle with networks to keep costs down. You can come back at me with some bullcrap that you think you claim to know or what have you, it wont do any good, just like the protest or whatever. I would love to see you guys out there freezing you r butts off for a useless cause, I would probably tape it.

They have a monopoly and they know there is no other TV Cable for us to use unless we go with the satalite so they can do as they please and there is nothing we can do about it.

they have also done the same thing to the electric and water. They can do what they want we have no choice but to accept it or do without.

Just another way for fat cats to gouge and get fatter at the consumer's expense.

If there was "decent" programing it might be worth it but not the way it is now.

The more we pay the less we get. Cable TV is going to price itself out of business one of these days and the sooner the better.

you pansies aren't going to show up. It is way to cold to leave you're warm living rooms in front of you analog tv's paying an extra dollar a month for a cable box.
