The fpb says they are using these cabel boxes so that they don't have to buy expensive conversion equipment.If they don't want to make money on the deal, why doesn't fpb give us the option of buying these boxes? If they don't give us the option then it is just a hidden rate increase. Who is going to get hurt the worst , the shut-ins , the elderly or the disabled? Just because you buy a new T.V. doesn't mean anything unless it has a QAM and only the more expensive models have a QAM. Join the Cable box rebellion! If you can not be at the peaceful protest on monday's at noon, but don't like these boxes you can write , e-mail and call and complain at the fpb. Or attend the next Board meeting . The Frankfort Plant Board holds monthly meetings of its Board of Directors on the third Tuesday of every month. Meetings are scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Plant Board Clubhouse located at 92 Tanglewood Drive. Board of Director's meetings are open to the public.

What were the perks? I'm truely interested. Please see if you can find the date of the old article.
The new digital tuner TVs do work with the FPB digital channels. Many, many people are already using their new TVs to get those channels.

The article was published a few months ago. The new digital turner that you refer to may or may not work with the fpb cable system. That is the question.

@awsommanofGod:
You keep referring to "perks for the bigwigs at the FPB" from a previous SJ article. I don't remember seeing that. Can you please post the link to that article or at least tell us when it published?
You aren't required to take a box if you don't want. You can use a TV with a digital tuner. ALL TVs SOLD AFTER MARCH 1, 2007 HAVE A DIGITAL TUNER. You have to *request* the number of cable boxes you want from FPB. They don't tell you how many you're going to take.

@RobertF:
True, but I'd bet anyone would be hard pressed to find a TV that could tune an over-the-air digital signal and not a cable digital signal."
Is Macha correct?
No one knows. The Plant Board is not going to tell us that is for sure. At least not until they cram a cable box down every throat they can.
Of Course all the profit they make on renting cable Boxes can be used to fund the perks for the bigwigs at the FPB. ( See previous State Journal article on those perks)
Join the cable box rebellion! If you want you can either show up mondays at noon at the downtown fpb , call and complain, e-mail the fpb and complain or show up at their monthly meetings and complain. This summer , when they switch over to the new system, it will be to late. Join the rebellion now!

FPB is streaming it's digital channels and also the corresponding HD channels alongside it's analog channels. If you have digital service or above and have a TV that may not have a digital box or HD DVR, you should go into your TV's channel setup menu and run an auto-scan. When finished you will find that there will be additional channels added alongside your old analog channels. A good example is channel 6, which you know as WKYT 27 in Lex. The analog is 6, the digital is 6.1 and the HD is 6.2
Some TV's may show some channels, usually from 24 to 72 with another number before the actual channel number also. So you may see two sets of identical channels on you TV. Your channel setup menu will tell you which are analog and which are digital in most cases.
I auto-scanned all of my TV's last night, looked at what I had as the results, then went in and manually hid the analog channels that had a digital alternative.
Now when I flip through the channels, I won't have to repeatedly flip over the analog channels as I channel surf. It does take a little getting used to when you go directly to a specific channel number and remember that that channel is now 6.1 instead of 6. And to also remember that that channel is also in HD on 6.2. If you have a HD DVR or a Digital Box, it's easy as it does all this for you. The only thing that I think that really sucks about the digital service is that you can only get channels above 72 or so with a Digital Box or a DVR. I think if you pay for Digital service, you should be able to view all of those channels without having to rent those boxes.

Mr. Higginbotham is on record stating a QAM equipped tv will work. What is your dysfunction?
