Will you forget the 3 Headed Tax Monster?
January 17, 2010
Sunday Jan 17, 2010 State Journal Editorial asks "... Maybe they'll" (the voters) "forget all about the January surprise" ($60 Garbage fee) "before it comes time to vote for prospective city commissioners " unless tenacious office seekers keep reminding them of the regressive measure that leans on property owners to make up for anemic revenue from wage earners and business. Tenacious office seekers might or might not remind the voters about all the taxes and fees raised during this recession. It depends on what kind of backbone the office seekers have. Incumbent city commissioners are the ones who put the $14,000,000 EOC in downtown Frankfort. If Dix Dam fails or a 100 year rain occurs, bye bye $14,000,000. Remember, it all started with our wonderful City Police in great need of a new police station. But greedy politicians wasted all that money and overbuilt as usual. Don't forget extra money had to be spent to purchase another building for parking. Because of the debt incurred, city staff lose longevity pay, falsely named taxes appear and up goes property taxes another 4%. They started taxing young boys cutting your grass and paper boys for delivering your State Journal. One Commissioner stands up to these increases and continues to "draw swift rebukes" from the 3 Headed Tax Monster. Again and again they chastise the wide eyed young commissioner. It's high time to take back our government from the old style politics of tax and spend. It's time to understand we had a $14,000,000 surplus, now we have a $8,000,000 surplus and what-$15,000,000 in debt service for the EOC? Will it ever end? Yes, if we make it end by voting in a new group of Commissioners. By the way, Mr. Editor, we will not forget! Comments
