MLK Community Worship ServiceJanuary 18, 2010
SUNDAY, JANUARY 17, 2010 - The Frankfort/Franklin County Ministers Alliance sponsored the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Worship Service at The First Baptist Church (Clinton Street) on Sunday afternoon at 6 p.m. The services were well attended with over 250 persons in attendance. This annual celebration rotates from church to church and is attended by baptists, methodists, episcopalians, assemblies of God, catholics, presbyterians, and other Christian Denominations. Services were led by Pastor Robert Earl Houston, Sr., host pastor and featured presentations by Dr. Jackson Brewer, President (First United Methodist Church - welcome and remarks), Dr. L.A. Newby (First Corinthians Baptist Church - invocation), Rev. Sandra Murphree (First United Methodist Church - gathering litany), Father Charles W. Howell (Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church - Old Testament scriptures), Dr. Howard Beauman (Frankfort/Franklin County Southern Baptist Association - New Testament scriptures), Rev. Jerry Parritt (Kentucky Assemblies of God - offertory), Dr. Robert Strode, Program Chairman (St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church - invitation to discipleship) and Rev. Bill Hartung (Frankfort Police Department - benediction). Music was provided by The First Baptist Church Praise Team led by Minister Sheniqua Grayson, The First Baptist Church Magnificent Mass Choir ("We've Come a Long Way Lord" and "God Has Truly Been Good To Me"), Ms. Carrie Lasley, Minister of Music, and Mrs. Shelby Strode of St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church. The featured speaker was Rev. Jonathan McReynolds, senior pastor of the Oakley Full Gospel Baptist Church of Columbus, Ohio and a western Kentucky native. His sermon, "If Not Now, When?" was an encouragement to those in attendance! He pointed out social justice themes and encouraged the congregation to pull together to affect change in the Frankfort area. A reception followed provided by the Women's Ministry of First Baptist Church, Ms. Mary Washington, President in the Edna Patton Fellowship Hall.
