Activity on Lawrenceburg Road

There seems to be considerable activity at the location of the old "Cliffside" on Lawrenceburg Road. Does anyone know when it will reopen? I understand that the Hellards sold it, but I have not heard to whom. I only hope that the buyer not only purchased the building but also the "good will," which would include the name and the RECIPES. I want to be first in line for the grand reopening. Right now, I would pay $100 for a roast beef special and a coney.

Anyone in the know PLEASE let me know!

Thanks, all, for your comments and reminiscing. Cliffside certainly has played a part in many of our Frankfort memories. I don't remember the steps coming down from the Briar Cliff area. Perhaps I was too young, but it sounds neat. My sister can remember when it was a drive-in and a hopping teen hangout. It will always be to me the place to take the kids and grandkids, and everyone could get what they liked and wanted. The country ham breakfast is another of my favorite Cliffside fare.

And thanks to you Webby. I will research the St Journal articles. I just hope that there will be a big notice, several days in advance, as to when the new Cliffside will open. As I said, I will be standing in line!

I've eaten all over the world, but no place had open faced roast beef like Cliffside did. That's the first place I went when I came back home and the very thing I ordered. I sure do miss it.

I can remember that they had some of the juicest hamburgers. They would melt in your mouth. They served some very good food there and I wish they were back.

Wow, Kure, that was a LONG time ago! I remember them also, but only after you two mentioned them. I, too, ate many a coney, burger and ice cream cone there as a kid. We knew a couple that had a house down on Travis Bottom (now Travis Circle) and we'd stop at Cliffside and get a snack.

To kitchencabinet - there was a set of stairs coming down the cliff, I climbed them many times as a child. I remember meeting Governor Breathitt on them once as he and his security climbed up to the mansion from the boat dock.

Randy Tillett purchased it and it's almost ready to open soon. I heard he hired the chef from the hotel. Can't wait either from a good old coney.

I noticed they have a business sign on the building. A bit off topic: at one time was there a set of concrete stairs with an iron handrail that came down the "cliff"? Or did the erosion do away with them?
