In reply to wwdamron, The Courier and Herald do not lock articles and they are not out of business. I will always take the print version of my hometown newspaper.

Its quite obvious, or at least logical to say that the SJ is being bought less frequently. So if they published everything for free on the internet then there would be no reason to buy a newspaper. But then of course the SJ would probably be out of business, this is only my opinion. But if they unlock all the articles, Then there would be no more state journal. in otherwords they need to make money, and I don't think the SJ would survive on classifieds alone. This story is not about a dictatorship or nazism whatever you want to call it it is just plain stupid for the SJ to NOT unlock some of there articles. Just my opinion. If you don't like it then either pay or don't read it. By the way I don't pay so I just have to deal with it.

I agree, this article should not have been locked. They wanted the public to be on the look out for a murderer, they needed to be sure all had access to this particular article. Very poor choice.

Thanks for the morning laugh :) How true it is though, the SJ website was much better when they weren't 'lock nazis.' Had much more discussion and fun. Now it's on to the next one...
Go to the Lexingon Herald Leader or the TV station website from Lexington and Louisville and you can read everything that is happening in Frankfort for free and shortly after it happens. With this paper you can read it maybe a day or 2 or sometimes weeks after it happen.
To me, Frankfort has a very poor excuse for a paper and radio stations. Neither one of them report on things that people here care about.

The SJ is not going to change their policy on locking articles, at least in my opinion. The repeated comments on here about locked articles only reinforces that people want to read the paper. They probably think if they continue to lock articles that people will go buy a copy. They do not understand that this policy has a negative effect on their circulation since the 2 major newspapers in the state do not lock articles.
Try a little reverse psychology and stay off their website and quit posting comments about locked articles. If online subscriptions and home delivery continue to decline, then they will have to make some changes.
