The dog was in a fenced back yard and someone let it out. The owners were not home that day. Read the original article - before you comment please. The facts are that the FCHS should have known the difference between a coyote and a dog, plain and simple. They have been extremely rude and have given the brush off to the owner in this situation.
The shelter is not taking any questions regarding this matter...no questions from individuals, media, etc. I called myself and was met with "no comment".

Micro-chipping wouldn't have helped in this case: the FCHS thought it was a wolf; they wouldn't have scanned it for a chip. They wanted to get rid of it as soon as possible because they were afraid of getting in trouble for harboring a wild animal.

I do question the owner's decision to leave the dog outside unattended overnight, only because one of our dogs was stolen from our yard in that type of situation. According to the police (at the time), that type of thing happens pretty often.

While I feel for the owners, there should have been some kind of id on the dog. Was it microchipped? The 4th is an awful time for animals, especially dogs. Mine is terrified of all the fireworks. Shoud have been in the house and asked someone to come by and let them out a couple of times a day. If some arrangements had been made this would not have happened.

Nana66, collars with or without tags can get lost. They can also get caught on a fence and the dog can get stuck or worse case hang itself. Other alternatives are tattooes, microchipping or harnesses. But as I said in another post if FCHS declared this dog a coyote they weren't going to get close enough to bother inspecting it.

Perhaps if that dog was wearing a collar with tags it would not have been mistaken for anything.

If they get it back I hope the owners learn their lesson.

Poor dog.
