The shelter manager at the Franklin Co Humane Society resigned the position. Regina McDaniel's resignation was accepted in executive session in today's FCHS board meeting. Geneva Smith will be the interim manager at the shelter (502-875-7297). The "owner surrender fee" policy that FCHS had was dropped today.
A terrific report was given from the new "foster and rescue committee" estabished in the previous FCHS board meeting and spearheaded by Jeanine Sloan and Trudi Johnson. This group of volunteers met, came up with fabulous ideas and suggestions, already has a growing slate of volunteers for tasks, and have secured a vet tech who has agreed to be "on-call" to evaluate injured or questionable animals, and more. One individual gave FCHS insight into transport opportunities and offered to assist. Another individual volunteered to assist with updating technical/online aspects of proper shelter outreach and contact. And yet another individual has offered a downtown storefront building as a location for donation drop-offs (of materials, supplies, other) and may serve as a headquarters for fundraising activities. Much more is needed, but there is great momentum!
Memberships to FCHS ($25 donation) are being solicited from caring animal-loving individuals prior to Monday, Sept. 20, 2010 and applications to serve on FCHS board are being simultaneously accepted until Monday, Sept. 20, 2010. You can go to the shelter to become a member for $25 or Jeanine can email you the form to be mailed in with your check. Anyone can apply to be on the board. You have to fill out a background experience form and turn in but everyone who submits this will be on the ballot for a Board seat. FCHS has always been a membership organization, it just hasn't been well advertised. Memberships are for one year. This is in the Bylaws.

Has FCHS always been a membership organization with voting rights? If not, have they changed their Articles and Bylaws with the Secretary of State to make this change to being a membership based organization where members have voting rights? Just asking.
