Kentucky State Senator Perry Clark hsa submitted Senate Bill 129. The Gatewood Galbraith Memorial Medical Marijuana Bill. According tp the Kentucky Legislative website the bill reads as follows:
AN ACT relating to medical marijuana. Amend and create various statutes in KRS Chapter 218A to make marijuana a schedule II drug with the limitation that a person for whom the drug has been prescribed may not possess more than five grams per month of the drug or have under cultivation more than five marijuana plants; create a new section of KRS Chapter 315 to require the Board of Pharmacy to establish a certification program for pharmacies seeking to dispense marijuana; designate this Act as the Gatewood Galbraith Memorial Medical Marijuana Act.
Since the average medical marijuana user uses between 3/4 to 1.25 ounces a week, either the 5 grams are a misprint or the bill will have to be amended. At least now Kentucky's sick and disabled have a Bill to hang their hats on and it couldn't be better named.

Medical Cannabis legislation has been passed in 16 states and Washington D.C. but, it should be available to all Kentuckians that need it, also. Scientific studies show that cannabis helps with nausea & vomiting (Crohn's Disease & chemotherapy), muscle spasms and tremors (Multiple Sclerosis), wasting syndrome (Aids), depression, pain relief, etc. Patients shouldn't have to resort to buying medication on the black market. And they should have a safer choice than pharmaceuticals. If you don't know anything about Cannabis and it's effect on certain illnesses, please do some research. With the decriminalization of marijuana passing with such high numbers, I can't imagine that this wouldn't also pass. I can't imagine why anyone that has a brain is still against marijuana. We have all seen the facts...it helps with so many issues. It is safer than anything else out there as far as medications go. If it helps one person, then that one person should not have to live in fear that they will be arrested for using a safer medicine. It has helped to reduce the suicide rate in states that have allowed medical marijuana. It in not addicting like opiates and other pharmaceuticals. It has no severe side effects...you get hungry and you giggle then you fall asleep and feel refreshed in the morning. That sounds a lot better than any of the commercials that you see on television and the side effects they tell about. It should just be an option and doctors should be able to prescribe it.
Please do a little checking before you condemn a natural plant that was obviously put here to help not harm. It was used as a medication for thousands of years before our government said it was bad. You can also look into why it was outlawed in the first place...it had nothing to do with marijuana being bad...it was all about greed. Hemp was in line to take in making paper, rope, clothing, fuel etc. Now, the Big Corporations couldn't have that now could they so they set out to start a campaign against it. The timber industry & oil industry started a smear campaign against a plant and it worked. They had plenty of money to pay corrupt politicians. The DEA will still tell you that Cannabis has no medicinal properties, yet the federal government has a program that still sends 4 people in the United States marijuana every month. Now that is hypocritical. The government even has a patent on it! But don't take my word for it...please look it up yourselves.
All I am asking is that before you condemn the plant, do the research...
Thank you for your time.

Sometimes I think that this is the most bass-ackward state in the whole United States! People are so closed-minded here! They would rather see people suffer than be able to use a natural medication. Such bull!
I think that this is awesome and I also wish that the people of Kentucky would contact their legislators and show your support! Here is the link:http://www.lrc.ky.gov/who swho

If you know anyone who is sick, aging, or in chronic pain, you really need to look into this! Check out the youtube video-----What if Cannabis Cured Cancer Also check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_cannabis Scientific studies show that cannabis helps with nausea & vomiting (Crohn's Disease & chemotherapy), muscle spasms and tremors (Multiple Sclerosis), wasting syndrome (Aids), depression, pain relief, etc. Patients shouldn't have to resort to buying medication on the black market. More crops means more working farmers and more jobs for Kentucky!

See the below definition...That whole, reducing the penalties thing...that's where decriminalization comes in.
decriminalize (d-krm-n-lz)
tr.v. decriminalized, decriminalizing, decriminalizes
To reduce or abolish criminal penalties for: decriminalize the use of marijuana.

I don't know where you get your info Ky has not decriminalized marijuana. Only thing they have done is change the law to give a citation with court dates instead of arresting someone in possession on the spot....

Oh, by the way, the actual bill says 5 ounces, not 5 grams. Still less than the amount that is decriminalized, but at least it's a start.

It's been over 20 years but I remember the day as if it occurred yesterday. It was the day when I had my first meeting with my oncologist. Having been diagnosed with cancer in it's third stage, my oncologist told me I needed to get my life affairs in order because the aggressive chemo treatments I was about endure would leave somewhat incapacitated and bring me the closest thing to death without dying. My oncologist stated she can write me a prescription for the THC pill to help with the side effects but their research shows the actually intake of smoke from Marijuana has better results. My doctor then stated the laws in Kentucky don't allow doctors to prescribe medical Marijuana.
Over the course of the next four months Marijuana helped stimulate my appetite. Despite the marble size mouth sores I had at times, smoking Marijuana made me fell like I wanted to eat. Marijuana helped me relax and somewhat elevated the pain. Now as far as the nausea goes, nothing helped that out. Nausea was 24/7 and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. During my weekly meetings with my oncologist, I always told her smoking Marijuana helps me make it through each day and the benefits from it are having a positive impact.
I gladly sit in front of legislative Judiciary committee and tell them my story so they may better understand the importance of allowing doctors to prescribe medical Marijuana.
