White Candlelight, sort ofNovember 16, 2007

Matthew Catron, 10, covers his face from the machine-generated “snow” at the Candlelight Tour in downtown Frankfort. The special effect at Thursday night’s event was a result of a special chemical creating small bubbles blown from the machines. While Mother Nature didn't exactly cooperate, there was still snow filling the skies at Thursday's annual Candlelight Tour.

The fact that the Frankfort School of Ballet was not invited to perform, as it always has in the past, is the reason that I, along with MANY of my friends and relatives no longer attend.

That was not a deterrent in previous years. Last year it was cold and rained lightly and it was fuller.

The cold weather probably kept a few people at home.

I believe the Nutcracker performance was missing because the Frankfort School of Ballet was specifically not invited to participate in this year's Candlelight Tour. Lots of people (parents, grandparents and other relatives of the dancers) therefore had no reason to come.

You call that 'bustling'? I would say, it was more a bust. And there will be less of a crowd next year. So many people missed the performances that normally took place. Carolers, musicians, nutcracker, what happened to all of that? St. Clair was pretty much dead. One had to march to First Presbyterian to hear some Christmas music. That's just sad!
While the 'snowflakes' were a nice touch, they were pretty much the only thing creating an outside Christmas atmosphere, besides the decoration. Many people were disappointed. Candlelight tour is not only for window shopping. I guess, nowadays downtown manager means, bring downtown 'down'. Carver was true to his name, carve away with everything that might actually bring business to downtown. Login above or Register to comment. |
