Services for Annie Mae Sanders, 84, will be held at the Frankfort Cemetery on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 10 a.m. Rev. L.A. Newby will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Smith-Jackson Funeral Home, 446 Bates St., in Danville, KY.
She passed away Saturday, Aug. 20 after a courageous battle with an illness with her loving family at her side. She was born in Franklin Co. to the late Willie and Adell Mason and was a faithful member of the First Corinthian Baptist Church. After years of service with state government, she was retired from the Cabinet for Human Resources Serology Lab. Mae also operated two family businesses, Tiffs Downstairs Record Shop and Rose Hill Antiques, with her late husband Alex G. Sanders Jr.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara Ann Sanders, her grandson Alex G. Sanders IV, her sister Billie M. Johnson, her twin brother Andrew Lee Mason Sr. and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Mae was preceded in death by her son Alex G. (Bud) Sanders III, her sister Lillian Lightfoot and three brothers, Charles Mason, Edgar Mason and Eugene Mason. Flowers are welcomed, by memorial gifts may be made to the First Corinthian Baptist Church.
Stephen Mason Sr., Kevin Mason, Roger Hogan, Maurice Brown, Stephen Mason Jr. and Matthew Mason will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rep. Arnold Simpson, Rep. Derrick Graham, Larry Greenwood, Silas Noel, Ernest Nash, Eugene Raines and Granville Coblin.
