Ruth Jackson Bryan, 94, of Frankfort died peacefully Tuesday morning, May 2, 2012 at her home after an illness of two years.
Ruth was the last survivor of her generation that descended from the Jackson, Parrent and Hawkins families of Early Bridgeport. She was born on October 7, 1917 in Bridgeport to the late John Jackson and Adeline Calvert Jackson. She graduated in 1936 from Bridgeport High School, and was a key member of the Bridgeport girls’ basketball team. During her lifetime she worked for National Distilleries and was the supervisor of Death Certificates in Vital Statistics when she retired from State Government. She was an active member of the Farmdale Baptist Church.
Ruth was the beloved mother of J W (Shirley) Bryan and Patty (Bob) Brewer, both of Frankfort, Phil (Sarah) Bryan of Murray, KY, and Marilyn (John) Marshall of Mayfield, KY
She was preceded in death by her husband Philip Bryan, and all ten of her siblings: Margaret Kruger, Julia Northern, Elizabeth Wilson, Sue Casey, Mildred Mann, and Calvert, John, Russell, William (Bill) and Davis Jackson.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Lucy Bryan McClure, Jeffrey Mitchell, John Bryan, Amy Bryan Watson, Steve Bryan, Melinda Brewer Thomason, Philip Bryan, Alan Bryan, Troy Brewer, Tommy Marshall, Katie Marshall Graves and Scott Harris.
The funeral service will be held at Rogers Funeral Home at 507 West Second Street in Frankfort at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, with graveside services following in the Frankfort Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday the 4th from 3-8 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home. Brother Steve Weaver of Farmdale Baptist Church will officiate.
