Larry Lee Jeffries

Reverend Larry Lee Jeffries was born June 23, 1942 and went to be with His Lord and Savior on May 15, 2012.  He was born in Toledo, Ohio, the third son of the late Byrdie Frances and Francis Ruth Jeffries.  He spent his childhood and youth in Toledo and Southern Ohio, where his maternal grandparents and many other relatives lived.  After graduating from high school, Larry went to Anderson College from which he graduated.  His seminary training was from Anderson School of Theology, Liberty University, Reformed Theological Seminary, and Fuller Theological Seminary.  He held degrees in Bible, Sociology, Church Planting, and Counseling.  Learning was a lifetime journey for Larry; he read and studied God’s Word and in the end listened to the Word on his iPad, a gift from a very special friend.

Reverend Jeffries was preceded in death by a sister, Jerri Jeffries.  He leaves his wife of forty-eight years, Joy Lynn Gillaspy Jeffries; mother-in-law, Mary Alice Gillaspy; three daughters, Melissa Elaine Wainwright, Lucretia Lynnette Western, and Felicia Renae Starke; two sons-in-law Mark Anthony Wainwright and Stephen O. Starke; five grandchildren, Laughton Anthony Droze, Victoria Lynn Droze, Connor Scott Western, Mikenna Joy Wainwright, and Matson Anthony Wainwright; four brothers, Eugene Jeffries, Ernest Jeffries, Tom Jeffries, and Bill Jeffries; four sisters, Joanne Martin, Marian Bordner, Ginger Lefevre, and Cindy Klostermier; brothers and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Larry Jeffries served the Church of God (Anderson, Indiana) for forty-four years, pastoring churches in Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina, Michigan, Ohio, Florida, and completed his full-time pastoral ministry in Louisiana in 2003.  The heart of his ministry was in evangelism, while pastoring in Orlando, Florida he planted seven churches across the Orlando area. Since moving to Kentucky in 2003 Larry provided interim pastoral leadership across Kentucky, the latest at Frankfort First Church of the Nazarene.

His last pastoral assignment was as part-time associate pastor at Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene.  In November of 2009, Larry and Joy started attending Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church and have continued to be a part of that Family of God.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 3 to 6 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 6 p.m. officiated by Pastor Todd Lester and Dr. Collet Varner. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored for contributions to be made in his memory to Campus Crusade for Christ, Mark and Gloria (Rodriguez) Vera, 11205 Woodridge Forrest, San Antonio, TX 78249, Staff Account #0450339, or online to www.give.cci.org or a Scholarship Fund at Warner Southern Christian College.
