Dorothy Elizabeth O’Nan Pickett, 84, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at home.
Services for Mrs. Pickett will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Harrod Brothers Memorial Chapel with Dr. Glenn Birkett and Dr. Scott Rollins officiating. Burial will follow in Frankfort Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday 10:00 a.m. until the service.
A native of Franklin County, she was born January 14, 1928, the youngest child of John Dennis and Lola Florence Penn O’Nan. Mrs. Pickett was a graduate of Bald Knob High School – Class of 1942. She was an executive secretary for Jim Beam formerly National Distillers and retired after more than 40 years of employment. She was a charter member of Highland Christian Church.
Mrs. Pickett is survived by her children, William H. “Bill” Pickett III and wife, Barbie, of Lexington and Gale Stivers and husband, Willie, of Frankfort; grandchildren, Justin O’Malley (Pam), Brandon O’Malley (Angie), Elizabeth Pickett, Lyndsey Pickett, Jason Stivers (Nia); five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Pickett, Jr.; a grandson, Joshua Reid O’Malley; her parents; brothers, Albert, Vernon and Fred O’Nan; and sisters, Phyllis O’Nan Day and Ruby O’Nan Yahle.
Pallbearers will be Joe O’Nan, Gary Heightchew, Roger Whitton, Jimmy Morrow, Archie Quarles and Don True.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, Franklin County Senior Citizens Adult Day Center or Special Olympics Kentucky.
