Lloyd Shannon, age 87, passed away quietly at his home Wednesday, August 29, 2012. He was born February 22, 1925 in Henry County Kentucky to the late Martha Purvis and Edward Forrest Shannon. His sisters, Julia Marshall and Josie Vest, preceded him in death.
Lloyd graduated from Pleasureville High School in 1944 and, after working for the federal government for a short time, lived for the past 66 years in Frankfort. He worked for the Kentucky Department of Highways for 42 years. He was a charter member and deacon of Immanuel Baptist Church. He loved his family and spending time with them and with his dear friends. He enjoyed golf and bocce ball, and he played a mean game of bridge.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Roberta Bush Shannon; two daughters, Patty (Roger) Crittenden and Becky (Scott) Tippett; three grandchildren, Ben (Amy) Crittenden, Laura Crittenden and Andrew Tippett; and one great-grandchild, Beatrice Crittenden. He also has two surviving nieces, Martha Helen Mullins, Lexington, and Rosalind Baker, Lawrenceburg.
Honorary pallbearers are Abbie Wash, Laurel True, James Mitchell, Reuben M. Thomas, Bill Jennings, Jewell Hawkins and Ben Weaver. Active pallbearers will be Roger Crittenden, Ben Crittenden, Scott Tippett, Andrew Tippett, Doug Bishop, Steve Dooley, Guthrie True and Bruce Dungan.
Visitation for Lloyd will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, August 30, at Rogers Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 31 at Rogers with burial to follow at the Frankfort Cemetery.
The family appreciates the compassionate support of Hospice of the Bluegrass and the kind attention of Kathy Guess, Georgia Hinshaw and Rhonda George that allowed Lloyd to remain in his home for the last weeks of his life. Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass or the Infant Resource Center of Immanuel Baptist Church.
