Martha Palmer Shandrick

OWENTON – Martha Palmer Shandrick, 90, of Owenton, departed this life to spend eternity in heaven on August 30th, 2012. She was the daughter of E.H. and Ella Meade Shamburger Palmer. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Shandrick; a brother, Harry Palmer; and a sister, Lyda Palmer.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Bill) Turner; two granddaughters, Heidi Williams (husband-Rusty) and Hilari Gentry (husband-Terry); and four great-grandchildren, Kelsey Williams, Sawyer Williams, Carson Williams and Griffin Gentry.

Martha served in the United States Navy during WWII and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, CA. She was a long-time resident of Lexington, Ky., where she was a founding member of the Lexington Board of Realtors. She was an avid reader and artist. She was a member of the Winchester Art Guild, Lexington Art League and a Donovan art scholar.

Visitation was held Sunday, September 2nd from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the Main Street location of McDonald & New Funeral Homes.

Funeral services were at 4 p.m.

A private burial was held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Lexington.

Memorial contributions can be made to Owen County Friends of Animals (an organization founded by her granddaughter).
